Top 10 Bollywood performances by a male in a leading role

Let us start an interesting new discussion on this board. I have listed my favorite 10 performances by actors in a leading role in a bollywood film. You people list yours
1) Amitabh Bachchan- Black
2) Amitabh Bachchan- Deewar
3) Manoj Bajpai - Shool
4) Naseeruddin Shah- Teen Deewarein, Aakrosh
5) Nana Patekar - Ab Tak Chhapan
6) Aamir Khan - Lagaan
7) Sanjay Dutt - Vaastav
8) Shahrukh Khan - Asoka
9) Rajesh Khanna - Anand
10)Om Puri - Ardh Satya
Others which are good but don't figure in the list would be Sunny Deol (Border),Shahrukh Khan( Dilwale Dulhaniya...).etc. Sorry but I have been ignorant enough to have not seen Dilip Kumar in Ganga Jamuna which many rate as the best performance ever.

What's the point in discussing? This is so funny! And do you think that Bollywood in India is ultimate? What about regional films?
What about Kamal Hasaan, Mamooty, Anupam Kher, Soumitro Chatterjee etc etc.
Saving 2-3 names from here, I don't even consider others stand a chance to come up against the regional performances.
I would even include Ashish Vidyarthi for DrohKaal, Sayaji shinde for Shool, Amjad Khan for Sholay.
May be in India villains have different category, but all over the world villain-role falls into ACTING category unlike anti-hero cult in India.
And in world stage, excepting Nasser, OmPuri, Soumitro, Kamal...none will even pass the screening tests for best actor nominations.
So enjoy yourselves here and be contempt with your stupid Bollywood movies, awards and lists.

I appreciate your immense expertise when it comes to films, however, its so unfortunate that while you do appreciate the brilliance of regional films, you fail to understand that Bollywood IS the ultimate. Agreed, Kamal Haasan, Naseer, Om Puri surpass the acting levels of their comtemporaries in the film world but do you realise that even these talented actors have at some point of time tried their acting skills to test in the most commercial and STUPID bollywood movies. For example Vishwatma, Pyaar to hona hi tha, Appu Raja...
You should understand, an actor always wants a larger audience and that platform is provided by only BOLLYWOOD. Some questions for you, Why are you so fascinated by the international level or the world stage?. And I am sorry but by my post I listed only the protagonists of a film. I am surprised that despite your brilliant film brain you consider Sayaji Shinde for Shool and forget Raghubir Yadav in 1942- A love story, you forget Om Puri in Ghayal and you forgot Amrish Puri in Aakrosh. Performances, anyone can list, it is a specific list I wanted.

Thank God, someone cared to answer the post. I fully agree with your choices, those are brilliant performances. However, I guess they would comprise the 'etc' part of my first post.

I did not put up my list here!! I just recalled whom I liked, it is impossible to list my favorites here.
Amrish Puri was more brilliant in SURAJ KA SATWAAN GHORA. So you can see, even you know some whom you have not (could not) listed. Infact, you did not mark your list from which year to start. Even a small piece of acting can be memorable. Can you (we) forget the acting of Yadav in SALAAM BOMBAY?
Even in 2006 ones, a small piece of acting from SHEFALI CHAYA in 15 Park Avenue really puts her up in the line of brilliant Shabana Azmi OR Konkona.
And I am talking about Indian Films, infact we should not classify like B'wood Films or Regional Films. It should be called INDIAN FILMS. There's the catche, Indian Films to the whole world means B'wood, but folks here are surprised to see Regional Films getting awarded or nominated on INTERNATIONAL STAGE. Do you remember any B'wood movies nominated for International Levels (excpt. LAGAAN) and how many Regional movies getting nominated and awarded?
So why not be proud of that? We should be proud of Indian films not beat drums over B'wood ones alone.

So according to you, Indian Films = Bollywood films?

That is like erasing the entire history of Indian cinema.

What about Satyajit Ray's films? Not "Indian" enough for you? And what made the Indian selectors choose the Marathi film "Shwaas" as the official Indian entry to the Oscars a year or two ago?

Sunny Deol was the best performance of all time. In Ghayal.
Then there was Sunny again in Gadar. (Mind you, he's my favorite, so I love basically all his work).

Third was Aamir Khan in Rang De Basanti. THE MAN IS SO VERSATILE
4th Amitabh IN FAMILY.AMAZING
5TH AMITABH IN KHAKEE.AMAZING
6TH SUNNY AGAIN IN GHATAK.
7TH BOBBY DEOL IN BARDAASHT. COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EYES.
8TH AKSHAY KUMAR IN KHAKEE.
9TH AAMIR AGAIN IN DIL CHAHTA HAI.
10TH MANOJ BAJPA IN SHOOL.

ALL THESE TEN PERFORMANCES ARE THE BEST IN HINDI CINEMA EVER.

SHOULD HAVE ASKED YOU BEFORE POSTING, GOING BY YOUR ID NAME. SIR, THE BEST WAY TO JUDGE YOUR TOP LIST OF PERFORMANCES WHICH CREATE THE MOST IMPACT ON YOU IS TO INSTINCTIVELY THINK OF THESE PERFORMANCES SINCES A GREAT AMOUNT OF THOUGHT GIVEN TO THESE MATTERS IS JUST NOT NECESSARY. BUT IN HINDSIGHT, I GUESS YOU ARE RIGHT, MAYBE I JUST STARTED THE THREAD TO START OFF A DEBATE.

Next three aren't lead roles but I couldn't resist mentioning them.

Dude, you need to specify where you are serious and where you are being funny. The list is A-class though. But Mukesh Rishi for Gunda and Asrani/Jagdeep in Sholay were amazing. Unlike others, they knew what they were doing!!!

There should be Paresh Rawal for Hera Pheri. Why do we keep forgetting that depicting a comical character is most difficult. Paresh Rawal can be included instead of SRK.
