Why I hate Bollywood films...

Just the word "Bollywood" sounds like a retareded rip-off of "Hollywood".
I watched this film yesterday (unfortunately) and hardly got through to the end.
So Indians should ask them selves, why do people really hate their films?
I'm gonna help them out with some of the reasons I hate Bollywood films.
Knowing that I gathered some of the finest most award winning Indian films and hardly watched them to the end.

1-Naivity: When I'm watching an Indian film I feel that the script is written by a 9 year old, litteraly.

2-Exageration: Emotions are very exagerated in Indian films, it's like some small incedent happens and an explosion of music and acting is observed.

3-Trying too hard: The acting the directing, you feel like they are trying too hard (desperately) not in a professional way.

4-Retarded English accent: and the inclusion of English in between the words. As if they were never proud of their language.

5-Luxury state: I think sadly this is the main reason for the success of Indian films, is that the poor in their country watch the life of wealth being to escape from their miserable reality.

6-Beautiful Actors: I haven't seen an Indian Actor in a leading role that is butt ugly but knows how to act (like Tom Hanks for example)

7-Indians: this is not a racist statement, but I really don't like Indians period.

Geez, you sure are ignorant are you. I am American btw.

1. You are correct, most Bollywood musical films are stupid and annoying. I'll give you this one.

2. Many actors in Bollywood are untrained and are told they are good so they don't learn anything except how to lip sync and dance to the songs. Acting comes second. Lastly, it's a cultural difference. Not all acting has to be Method acting or even American style. I studied acting and know the History of the Theatre so before you comment on acting in general, know what you're talking about. All acting in ancient Greece was done in Masks first off with super exaggerated motions just so you know a little bit before spewing the diarrhea of the mouth.

3. Refer to my answer above as well.

4. How is another's accent retarded? Sorry, but the Indian accent is distinct as is the Australian, Scottish, Irish, English, etc. as any other countries is. Why you single out the Indian accent is just prejudice speaking. You did state you don't like Indians in general so you are just ignorant it seems. Indians don't have a "language". There are over 300 languages spoken in India - the two national languages are Hindi and English so the reason they go in/out between languages is because it's normal. Many Indians I know do the same thing in normal every day conversation. And lastly, Indians are extremely proud people.

5. You are also correct about that statement as well. But you also fail to understand that is the same for all movie going audiences. People watch movies which we know are unreal, to escape life for just a couple hours to forget life and be entertained. That is the job of the actor.

6. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Mr. Bachan is the leading Indian actor of his day - his acting was amazingly intense. And from me who never liked him really, he sure did impress me with his acting chops in this film. When he is not doing silly films, he can really give you some amazing stuff. You obviously haven't seen many Indian films or Indian centered themes - here's a few you can check out if you want to see "ugly" Indian actors who are real actors - City of God, The Namesake, Salaam Bombay, Monsoon Wedding, Lagaan, etc.

7. More ignorance - if you dislike a whole nation of people simply for being Indian, you are racist. Admit it. The fact you state it at the beginning of your sentence is ludicrous.

I am an Indian and I agree with many things that you mentioned here. Like the word "Bollywood", Naivity, Exaggeration, Trying too hard. Even being an Indian, I don't find most of the Indian actors are "beautiful". For me there are very very few good actors in India. If Indian accent is a problem, then probably you wont like any of the Indian movies. I usually don't like Indian movies but I dont hate people for that. Or other way round. Anyways, I hope you will realize that we are all humans. You need not love them, you can at least show a little tolerance. I am guessing you are probably very young.

The politically correct term is 'Native American'.

I agree with your rant over Bollywood, it is a pretty awful film industry and they only seem to produce a few good films every couple of years. You'd think they'd be ashamed, but it seems what the rest of the world regards as terrible films, they actually seem to like. Why else would they keep on supporting these mediocre films? They have a different outlook and sense of humour. They are not looking to see a great critically acclaimed film, they want a film that would entertain 'them'. Their films are really only intended for 'them', not the rest of the world. That's why (with the exception of a few like Lagaan) they will never be taken seriously as other Asian films industries have (Korea, HK, Japan, Iran).

India sometimes produces some good parallel cinema/arthouse films, but these are rarely recognised by India and every year for the Oscars they always send some useless bollywood trash.

7-Indians: this is not a racist statement, but I really don't like Indians period.

You don't like Indians period, yet you'd look at their films? Do you even know any Indians? I work in London with some other Indians born in the UK and some from India and I'll admit I find the ones from India 'try too hard' to fit in, are quite irritating and just can't seem to work it out, but I think it's really because their personalities are different from those in the west. I certainly wouldn't say I dislike them all. Some are OK. You can't tar all with the same brush.

6-Beautiful Actors: I haven't seen an Indian Actor in a leading role that is butt ugly but knows how to act (like Tom Hanks for example)

Actors like Naseerudin Shah and Nana Patekar are rather ugly and those guys can act. They have played leading roles too, but it's true that bollywood like to choose ex-models and pretty boys to play lead roles, regardless of their acting talent, or lack of.

First off, they didn't coin the term "Bollywood"....it was coined for them.

1. The naivity is what endears me to Indian films. The way they actually try to bring out the good in everything, as opposed to American films of gloom despair or utter idiocy.

2. See above regarding idiocy. American "comedies" are the most buffoonish stupidest ever...if you think "Hangover" and "Jackass" are great movies, well I rest my case..

3. I don't get this at all, in fact they seem more relaxed acting and not trying to be all methody ala Brando Pacino Deniro et al..

4. Yes how dare those Indians actually be bilingual, a concept that is completely alien to Americans....

5. As opposed to America's obsession with reality shows so they can pick on the "losers" and then feel better about themselves..

6. I don't consider them butt ugly but they're not glamour guys: Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Om Puri...all great actors..

7. Americans....I think you're a perfect example of why the majority of the rest of the world considers Americans arrogant...and I *am* an American.

I agree with most of what you say though I think some of your sentiments are a bit harsh, at least in publicly expressing them in such a manner.

What I hate more than Bollywood films themselves is the total emotional and irrational voting by Indians themselves. I'm not sure if they're just overrun with emotion and give every movie they like a '10' but the ratings for the better know Indian films (which are mediocre or downright awful based on an my personal opinion with as much objectivity I can employ) just amazes me. I've seen about ten Indian films rated 8+ and have yet to rate any above a '5'.
