Which is the most touching and emotionally disturbing movie ?

Guys,

According to you which is the most touching and emotionally disturbing movie...and I mean any movie..Bollywood or Hollywood..or any other language movie. BLACK was good. But for me, the movie that literally pierced my heart into tears for days was The Passion of the Christ. I was almost numb and couldnt speak after I saw that movie. The effect was a million times greater than what BLACK brought. Extremely touching and real especially when you know that it had happened. Probably one of the greatest according to me. Might have been controversial to some ppl but I think it was perfectly alright. What about u guys?

reply

The Passion, really? I thought Gibson overplayed the slow motion scenes to death (no pun intended!). That really infuriated me more than anything. Although, being a non-Christian, I probably couldn't associate with it better. As a movie, it was a crashing bore. As a retelling of events, it was stark and bare, just as the last ours of Christ were, which Christians can probably appreciate a lot more.

I guess ppl have their own opinions. Well, I think what Gibson did with the slow scenes was on purpose..and it did have a much more prolonged effect. He was trying to show the magnitude of the pain and suffering. That is where his brilliance shows. All in all, I thought it was very well made. And I think not just Christians but everyone can well relate to this movie. Doesn't matter if he/she doesn't know the facts...but the sheer pain and suffering He underwent is enough to bring an emotional impact.

Hmm, I disagree. I'm a Christian and found The Passion highly overrated and focused on the suffering (or Passion) of Christ to be a major flaw in the sense that it completley missed the value of Christ and his message. Anyone can die by crucifixion, and indeed Christ died alongside two other men, but not anyone can preach and practice love/understanding/etc. to the extent that Christ did. Gibson should have made a movie about that...

I think American history X would be the most touching and yet disturbing in the sense that redemption is achieved at a point far to late for it to do any good.

reply

I can't call Passion of Christ even a good movie. More than 70 % of the time and length of the movie, the director shown the art of beating a person.
Passion of Christ was totally a violent third grade movie.
Do we go to the movie hall to watch new ways of beating a helpless person for the complete time???
Dumb!

reply

hmm..well I wouldn't go that far dude. Passion is a brilliant movie. It features in the all time top 10 movies..which I think is a great accomplishment and shows how far the movie has reached. It's truly a touching movie..if you see it the way a human sees it. Although I must admit that Christians would relate to it the most. Atleast its better than all those third grade Bollywood movies that release every single week. There is a reason why he was beaten and it shows how much pain He has suffered for mankind which I think according to me is truly magnificent and heart-wrenching. It was meant to be a violent movie so that people understood the magnitude of pain Jesus suffered. I would see it any day to give me an awakening of the spirit and purification of the soul.

reply

Awakening and purification of the soul through watching Jesus get tortured? Ackward paradox. Few people, if anyone, believes in the message of Christ simply because he was willing to die for his convictions. People die for their convictions and actions on a daily basis and yet they never achieve the following that Christ did. The purifying element of Christian theology should not include the horrors of Christ's last few hours and should rather be concentrated on what he did before his death.

reply

Well, I suppose you just cant put black in the from of emotional touching movies.
Defintiely there were a lot emotions involved but the most striking feature of the movie is the relationship between the teahcher and his student and how they are dedicated to each other. It has much more than just tearful emotion to it. It has shown the struggle which one should make to go on, to overcome difficulties. It has depicted "The Spirit" of living .

reply

I found the Passion boring. I just didn't really like stting and watching someone get beaten for such a prolonged stretch.

The one that after watching, left the biggest effect on me was Donnie Darko. It was so surreal, quirky and wacky. It combined humour, emotion and drama extremely well with a sci-fi plot. Everything was so beautifully inter-woven and the performances, especially Jake Gyllenhall were superb. It leaves you at a point where you kind of understand what's happenign but you kind of don't and when its over you WANT to go out and research to find out exactly what's happening.

It really spoke to me, and I found so many parallels between it and my own life. Definitely in my top 5 favourite films ever.

Just when you watch it, make sure its not you're not on your own in your room at night. If it has the same effect on you as it did on me, you'll understand why.

reply

Yeah. Donnie Darko was a wicked movie. Very thought-provoking indeed. But definitely unreal..i mean come on...a rabbit ghost?!?!?

Well I am a Christian and I KNOW it DID happen. It's upto you to believe it or not believe it. But there are far many proofs that suggest that it did happen.
PPl..this post is not just to discuss a single movie (TPOC)...looking for your opinions on other movies as well. I just firmly believe that TPOC was amazing..probably because I am Christian but I know it has touched other's hearts as well. But as a human being, I do respect all religions.
If nobody talks about anything else other than criticizing one movie...I will just delete this post.

The single most heart wrenching movie I've ever seen has to be GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095327/
I'm not really a cry-while-watching-movie person, but while watching The English patient, I was teary eyed. Baghban and Black made teary but i contained my tears, but while watching the ending of Grave of the Fireflies, i was sobbing! with full on hiccups and tears all over my face! If someone had found me crying like that, they would wouldve never thought that I was crying over a movie. I'm glad I was the only one watching it, but that movie made me depressed for 10 days..my eyes used to get swelled with tears just by thinking about it! And the fact that this movie was based on real events doubled..no, quadrupled the impact of the movie. Be advised, this one is NOT for people who are easily depressed..And for people who think they can never be brought to tears while watching a movie, i challenge you to watch this movie and not shed a single tear.

reply

Thanks man. I will definitely watch it now. This might sound funny to some, but I actually became emotional when watching the last few minutes of Kal Ho Na Ho when SRK was dying...it just seemed so real and touching..especially when you think of what he is doing...can't forget that last line...before he is dying:

Aman: Not Yet! Idiot!
also.... Aman: Kash mein tumhara jagah hota...kassh...

Quiet touching. Another amazinf movie that made me feel a lot about my country was Swades...the ending song was just pure brilliance...haunted me for days...still sing it today.

well, if you read history you will realize that Romans used to kill people by nailing them to the cross. Jesus was not an exception. If he lived today then I guess death by lethal injection or some other method would be used. Now talking about the details of the death and details before his death, those could be debatable, the reason is in the next sentence (read it before u send "die bastard or any such good blessings"). Who wrote an event by event detail of the same? I think Mel Gibson is a really horrible person (he is from hollywood and America) who took advantage of peoples raw emotion and used it to his benefit.
Talk to any educated person and this is what he would say.

I guess a lot of you have not seen "A requiem for a dream". it's the single most disturbing movie I've ever seen. I was totally shaken by the movie and I am not sure I could have watched it in a theatre. One thing's for sure, I won't be able to look at drug addicts in the same way anymore nor think of ever smoking pot in my life.I guess that's the reason it is ranked #50 in the top 250 in IMDB.
It's from the maker of Pi, an independent movie on a smaller scale. Just listening to its haunting brilliant track "Lux aeterna" gives me the chills.

Watch Philadelphia if you want a more hollywood-ish story. good performace by tom hanks in it..
and yes ANAND was a good emotional movie although not in the least disturbing though. In fact it'll give you a sense of appreciation for the small things in life.

Passion of the Christ was a very touching movie, even though i am not christian, i thought it was very well made and very powerful and effective, i know i cried like a baby, lol. I agree that Kal Ho Na Ho was also very sad, the last part of the movie made me cry alot. Black is a brilliant movie with superb performances from everyone involved especially rani and amitabh, these is their best performances to date. I cried when michelle graduated from university and gave her speech and also at the end, it is a very touching movie, the relationship between them is so remarkable!

reply

I agree... The Green Mile... touches every nerve in you.. till the very end.

Then there is ...
Arlington Road. (really disturbing).
Jacob's Ladder (it has a twisted end).

In Bollywood...
Ek Doctor ki maut - was really touching.
SADMA - as someone mentioned here.
SHOR - ( very melodramatic but the end was really touchy).

Njoy......

BLACK definitely is very touching movie for me. For the full movie, me and my wife couldn't even speak to each other even when we watched it on DVD.

Another movie that I found very touching and emotional is a old movie of Amitabh called MAIN AAJAD HOON, The recorded speech of Amitabh, after he dies, was really something, when I was able to control myself, there were many people who were crying in the ending part.
