I've heard that Black Isle has been dissolved and that Baldur's Gate III will no longer be made. As I'm just into Baldur's I, I was wondering why Dark Alliance is not considered as part III and if it is inferior to the classics I & II. Will have my hands full for the next few years with all six titles though, but I might skip expansion of part I.

Yes, Black Isle dissolved and the third game was canceled. However, the project has recently been resumed as you can read in this link I pulled from Wikipedia.
