Why was he naked at the end?
That was kinda random. Also when the red octopus randomly came up....

shareHe wasn't "naked" - he was in his most recognizable outfit, with the shorts and the red boots. That's the way he looked in the original Japanese manga. The film-makers wanted to pay tribute to that, I'm guessing.
And the space-octopus is kind of a homage to the manga as well - it was meant to illustrate Astro's destiny as a defender of humanity. I would have liked a better ending, but it was okay, and didn't detract from my enjoyment of the movie at all.
Astro coming back to life at the end was a bit "out there" - I got the Space Octopus/Artificial Sun thingy though.
Freddie Highmore wasn't too bad as Astro I thought.

He wore clothes often in the original iteration and the 80's colour version as well. He just shucked them off before he went flying/into battle.
Not to mention, his red boots weren't originally his. They originally belonged to a girl robot that died when Astro tried to save her. He salvaged her legs and kept them for himself.

shareHeh, Randy's reply rather reminds me of this particular web comic page.

I just laughed my throat sore. I'm saving this to use!
shareI don't remember him wearing clothes in the original BLACK and WHITE versions. I couldn't tell what color his boots were in those either for some reason. (yuk, yuk) All the original ones that I watched as a kid were black and white. 80's ? I was 35 years old by then and whatever version was out was certainly not the orginal and more than likely had updates or changes. LOL
shareThe way I saw it was his clothes were probably vaporized when he and the Peacekeeper exploded at the end. So yeah since the boots and briefs? are built into him... makes sense right?

sweiland, I think Drayko is referring to a post by RandyVanderhoosen. Go to the first set of posts to see it if you need to.
Focker, out.
Firstly, not naked. How does someone not know what naked means? The mind boggles.
Secondly, his shirt was off in order to show the compartment in his chest. This showed him as a robot but also was, more importantly, required to suggest the imminent happy ending. The compartment in his chest was perhaps the single most important part of him and was required to be exposed in order for the end of the movie to work. How else could the blue force be inserted?
He had just been in the center of a blue core-red core detonation.
It's miraculous he was in one piece at all.
His clothes were burned off.
