Looks cliched

Hmm... drug-using (at least heroin and marijuana from the commercials), hooker/groupie banging, players doped up to play. Why not just go rent Any Given Sunday for all that? Or you can get individual issues from movies like Varsity Blues.

I prefer to actually watch the series before assuming anything.

reply

Indeed, random.

Looks intersting.

Is is a true look at the world of football.

The show is a bit over the top. It's too dramatic, and too unrealistic. Not everyone in professional football is miserable. While those stories are interesting it still annoys me that they show nothing possitive. Most players enjoy there jobs, and they should show some of that even if they do want to over dramatize everything. It is however well made and well acted, so I will continue to watch it.

reply

Thats how I feel, master.

It's a decent show, a good timewaster .. but nothing more. I guess it's fun to watch.

Think about it. How interesting would a show about a bunch of
happy-go-lucky football players be? This show is great. Way to go ESPN.

reply

I'm not saying it is a bad show. I'm not saying it should be less dramatic. All I am saying is that they over did it, and that it is not that realistic. People think just because they show some things that have actually happened in pro football that this show has some amazing insight into the way things really are. What is shown in the first few episodes of this show might happen to a time in one season, but not a few games. It is unrealistic, but as I said before, it is well made. I suppose that balances out then.

I really like the show but it doubles as an hour long commercial for Under Armor. Nothing like obvious product placement.

reply

Yeah, that bothers me too. It's totally shameless. Why would every single player where Under Armor? It get very annoying.

reply

Why? Why you ask?? I'll tell you why..because..

YOU MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!

reply

[deleted]

I guess I'm stupid and don't know what Under Armor is.

reply

It's all the football crap that the wear under their pads that has the logo with two U's linked (one's upside down). I've seen ads for it in Sports Illustrated. And yes you are stupid.

reply

I am not stupid. You are.

reply

I WILL! I WILL!

Funny.

reply

Yeah an advertisement for Under Armour..and Champion... and Schutt (the helmets).. and Gatorade.. LOL

reply

It's actually a pretty good show. And how is it cliched if most of this stuff actually happens? In this series it's given better situations than any of the movies you mentioned. Therefore there is a realism those movies didn't have.

Its taken from claims of real events, but in order to make a whole series out of it, they had to throw it all together into one season. Its the same deal as with Boston Public, pretending there would be some catastrophic issue every week. Its called TV. Its not realistic, if you want something real, you shouldn't be watching TV. Its sort of like a soap opera for football fans. I know its ridiculous, but i watch it religiously, and its the ONLY show i watch regularly.

Most football movies are full of clichés. The same goes for tv shows. It is almost unavoidable.
