How can they use the same actors?

The guy who plays eddie and joeys agent were in friends!! And now they are playing different people...i know they are actors and it is a different show, but the character of Joey is the same, so technically eddie would still be eddie!! its a spin off...

it annoys me so much i cant watch it..

reply

Then you're an idiot...

reply

It's really not a big deal. Refusing to watch it just because of that is stupid.

reply

Paul McGillion played a character in one ep of STargate SG1, that didn't stop him getting a main part as a different character in spinoff Stargate Atlantis. He's more well known for Atlantis now than SG1

reply

TV shows do it all the time, to stop watching something simply because of that is ridiculous, you'd have to stop watching a lot of shows then.

reply

Yeah. In the show "Growing Pains", there's an old guy who plays different parts in different episodes. For instance, he played a plumber, a bug man, he ran a fairy boat ticket counter, he ran a house in the same episode with the fairy boat, he played a bum, etc...

reply

Also, John Mahoney and Peri Gilpin (Martin and Roz from Frasier) both had small roles on Cheers. This sort of thing happens all the time and it's not a big deal.

reply

Did you stop watching Friends when Giovanni Ribisi played Phoebes brother too? Since he played "man who lost condom" in an earlier episode?

reply

What is the episode are you talking about "man who lost condom"?
I didnt notice Phoebes brother actor had two roles.

reply

there was. when Phoebe wasn't able to play in the cafe when Stephanie came, she decided to play outside and people occasionally gave her money. The actor who also played her brother dropped a condom accidentally.

reply

Perhaps that was Frank Jr. Phoebe didn't know him at the time, nor did he know her. I kind of doubt it but it is possible since you never hear the characters name. In any case, he was great on that show.

reply

I think that episode is in season 1. But Phoebe is outside playing and she gets a tip, but the guy throwing in the tip also throws a condom in the guitar case. He comes running back for it like 10 seconds later.

reply

That puzzled me for years. I though he had come back to get change because he'd just realized he needed his cash to buy condoms.

reply

It's not because he played the part of the "man who lost condom" he couldn't be phoebe's brother... Phoebe's brother could have actually been that man since they didn't know eachother at that time!

And Eddie wasn't just a one time charachter... I think for many friends fans he was one of the best re-occuring secondary character :)

On second thought, gum would be perfection...

reply

That wasn't neccesarily 2 roles. It could've been her brother then...she just didn't know it yet.

reply

I don't get what the big deal is... all the CSI's exist in the same universe (as discovered through all the crossovers), but I'm sure somewhere in the 100000 episodes bsteween all three series, actors/actresses have played different parts, on one they might have been killed, two years later, they played the murderer.... wait a second... the murderer died two years ago in the other CSI! WTFRAGEHAXICPURPLEELEPHANT!

reply

Tecnically, if you think about it - the man who lost his condom was never identified not to be Phoebe's brother. At that time they just did not know each other and were random strangers. Of course, they do not bring it in the later episode when Frank JR shows for a first time, but it is plausible anyway :)

reply

Ross's Ex-wife Carol was played by two different women during the running of Friends.

The guy who played Martin Crane on Frasier once appeared on Cheers as a commercial jingle writer, who had no relation to Frasier.

This happens all the time on TV, get over it.

reply

How about this, in the second last episode of season two of Dr Who, Freema Agyeman played Adeola Oshodi, a young Torchwood employee who fell victim to the Cybermen, yet two episodes later (season 3, ep 1) she was cast as the Doctor's new companion who was better than Rose Tyler

reply

I stopped watching the show... but not for that reason, I stopped watching because it made me want to eat myself.

Kevin Smith will one day egg Greasy Reese Witherspoons house

reply

I think it's really stupid to use the same actors and have them play different characters. It's not like there's a shortage of actors and it obviously bothers a lot of people so they shouldn't do it. Just use different actors, how hard is that??

reply

Speaking of doctor who, colin baker (who played the 6th incarnation of the doctor if you didnt know) wasn't only in doctor who before being cast, but in his part he shot the doctor.

Who are you anyway?

reply

Joeys agent in friends, Estelle was the midwife that delivered carols baby too. In which case you should have stopped watching friends years ago........moron

reply

The original poster has a point, namely:

i know they are actors and it is a different show, but the character of Joey is the same, so technically eddie would still be eddie!!

ie Joey would recognise Eddie. Its not the same as one person being cast as 2 different extras. It's nearly as bad as Courtney Cox coming on the show and playing a 1 night stand of Joeys, with no reference to her having played the part of Monica on Friends. Would we all allow that on the basis that "they are just actors"??

But yes,you are over reacting a tad, a quick moan on IMDB and then finish watching the series would be quite sufficient IMO

reply

I agree they should try and find different actors. but it also happened with Tony Shaloub who played Antonio on Cheers and was met Frasier in an episode but years later Tony Shaloub guest starred on Frasier as a different character.

reply

and what if the guy who lost a condom was in fact Phoebe's brother? She didn't knew him at that time and neither did he, so it's not impossible...

-Do you want to know how I got these scars?

reply

I agree with the op, it is stupid to have Jennifer Coolidge on Joey as his agent when she played the weird friend of Monica & Phoebe's in Friends, but as I recall, Joey never actually met her then and her job title in Friends was never really made obvious, so she could have moved to LA and became an acting agent. In saying that I don't actually think there is any connection to the characters and obviously the directors/producers of both shows just liked her for both characters. I think Jennifer is a good actress and has played both the character of Bobby and her character on Friends very well, which I guess is why they hired her for both. I don't think it makes a major difference what characters she's played before and you shouldn't not want to watch the show cause of something silly like that. Also with Phoebe's brother on Friends, I agree with the above post, they never knew each other and when Phoebe met him and found out he was her brother, I think she was more interested in that than thinking about whether or not she'd randomly met him on the street before.

reply

Have to agree that it does irritate me too, doesn't stop me watching but think the worst ones for me where:

Star Trek TNG: Tasha Yar is on the crew, then she dies and later on she plays the Kardassian leader even though Tasha Yar makes a brief appearance in later season also.

Red Dwarf: Changing Kochanski may have been okay if the character had remained the same but the original one was fun and outgoin whereas the newer one was a b***h.

There are times it could work though like someone mentioning Phoebe's brother being the guy that lost the condom. There's nothing indicating that wasn't her brother the first time so you can sorta look back and go aaaaaawwww...

Another great one was the UK series GAME ON when Mandz and the ginger guy are going on about how it annoys them when tv shows replace actors and everyone acts like nothings changed and in walks the other flatmate played by a different actor and they act all normal lol. Brilliant!

I think it's okay for someone like Jennifer Coolidge because she had a one-shot forgettable role on Friends, but Eddie was a recurring character in Season 3 and interacted frequently with Joey. That's too much - it'd be like if Bonnie Sommerville or Paget Brewster came on with a role on Joey. It was okay for Giovanni Ribisi or the actress who played Estelle to come back, because they were extremely forgettable parts, who barely had more than a couple lines.

Besides, I always like to pretend the condom guy really is Frank Jr., and Phoebe and he have this moment they don't remember.

reply

Recurring character? He was in like 3 episodes.
