Is anyone named Isolde in real life?

I knew several Tristan, but never met any one named Isolde in real life.

The six-months old daughter of a friend of mine in England is called Isolde.

There is quite a lot of Isoldes in Germany,
mostly a bit older(like in their 60s or so...

Yes, actually that was kind of a fashion name in Germany ... but waaay back; the only Isoldes I know are over 50!!

Back when opera was popular...

It's such a pretty name but I don't like the English pronunciation, I like it my Swedish way where you say the "e" as well. How is it pronounced in German?

reply

From what you describe: somewhat like the Swedish way (the final "e" is pronounced). Unlike in French, but the most common version of the name here is not Isolde, it's Iseult (and the "l" is not pronounced).

reply

Just like you do, I guess - Eeh-sol-dah (dah, deh, so hard to describe that sound but I think you catch my drift with you being Swedish, I wouldn't need to define it like that as Sweden and Germany have a lot of first names in common ... Olaf, Martin, Sven and Lars come to mind immediately).

Do it today, tomorrow it may be against the law ;-)

I am. Ok, it's just my username but I love it so much that if we could choose our one names, I'd probably go for that.

I think we should all name our daughters Myfanwy.

"Dude, it's Lord Goblin King, not Lord Go Blinking!"

reply

Yeah, my old girlfriend is named Isolde, and she is in the beginning of her 20ies. So it isn't just people in their 50ies :) She is half German/half Dane and a dark haired beauty.

reply

It's a pretty common name in Hungary. Izolda.
