And that's why I like Tristan and Isolde better. Romeo and Juliet, while a classic, focusses so much on these two teenagers that blow their world and their lust (which they see as 'love' despite knowing nothing of each other) so far out of proportion that instead of being apart they kill themselves despite any family or friends. Tristan and Isolde acts more mature in it's dealing with their love. They don't see each other, fall in love and obsess. They meet, and talk, and fall in love. Tristan is forced, however, to choose between love and his loyalty. We are introduced to characters whom the title character effect, making what they do hold more water than Romeo and Juliet. The audience feels sympathy for the King because of what Tristan and Isolde do, but also feel sorry for Tristan who has to make a choice and Isolde who is stuck in the middle. Much more interesting and mature than Romeo and Juliet. (:
