Tristan is a pretty common name. Definitely a well chosen name and it's a name I'd love to give a kid of my own some day.

tristan isnt a common name.

Maybe not in your neck of the woods. But unless you live everywhere on a day to day basis you have no real evidence to prove otherwise.

Yeah, Tristan's not a terribly uncommon name where I'm from either. I had a high school boyfriend named Tristan, and I've met 2 or 3 others. It's a beautiful name, even if it does have a sad meaning and a rather tragic stigma.

My old boss named his son Tristan.

I know a female named Tristian but I have never met a male with the name, which is kind of weird since I think it's more common for boys *shurgs*.

I've never met a female named Tristan.

In England, I had several male friends named Tristan. Here, in the States, I married into a family with a female named Tristan - that was odd to me at first but I'm used to it now.

reply

Ya I haven't heard of a female with that name either. But Tristan is a common enough name here in SK, Canada. I was confused that people found it to be a rare name.

Oh and I knew a Trista for a girl in high school.

reply

Depends where ya live, Its more common in some places than others, bit like everything in life really!

According to one site, it was the 113th most common baby boy name in the U.S. in 2005, #86 in 2006. 2002 was the most recent year they had the ranking for girls, and it was #884.

I love that name for a boy (now that I watched the movie), bu I wouldnt give it to a son. I'd want my boyfriend/husband or whatever to be named Tristan.

Not at all! I think it's very pretty. What kind of dog is it/will it be?

Congrats on the new dog! I hope you post pictures. I'm a big dog-person (though unlike some, I happen to be a cat-person at the same time, I have no problem with that). I'm looking forward to having a dog of my own soon (probably greyhound; there's a charity close by who needs help rescuing martyr hounds, very ill-treated in Spain for racing and hunting.) It will probably already be christened though, so no chance of giving it an Arthurian/Tristanian name (I'd love to call him Mordred, or her Vivien ^^).

Brad Pitt's name in Legend of the Fall was named tristan, as well. It's a great name

Depends on where you're from. It's relitively common where I hail from.

I know a couple of Tristans. It seems to be a reasonably common name in Australia at least.
