Brought to you by FedEx

I enjoyed the documentary but um, why the hell did we need at least 5 different shots of the FexEx planes "soaring majestically" over the dealership? "They're the largest employer in Memphis and the dealership's near the airport"...I get it!

Well we are very proud of multi-billion dollar corporations that were started here in memphis. Would your city or town not also be proud of it also.

Honestly, there are so FedEx planes that fly in and out of Memphis that I'm surprised that only 5 showed up. Any where you go here in Memphis, you can pretty much count on seeing a FedEx plane flying overhead. I guess we're just used to it.

I drove through Memphis this past spring and didn't notice it. Guess I'll just have to look up next time ;-)

I think that Fed Ex must have paid for probably 90% of the film. Really, there was no need to see the jets fly over like a million times and also to give them that whole commercial in the begining.

Well, if you've ever BEEN to Memphis, you'd know that those damn jets are EVERYWHERE. Personally, I think it was supposed to be a dramatic touch...Just like they kept showing shots of the empty parking lot, or crazed redneck customers, I think they were showing the planes to establish the scene, not to act as a commercial for Fedex. Bennett is trying to sell cars with these loud, obnoxious planes flying overhead every ten minutes, in a sort of ghetto part of town...it's all part of the seedy mood. Just my opinion.

Yes, it was intentional to establish the "hellish" mood of the car dealership being in the flight path of Fedex. It also helps to show what the slasher had to deal with as far as the noise associated with it.

Also, If you know anything about editing (I doubt any of you do), sometimes you need to cut up someone's dialog without using a "jump cut". In this case, you need to insert a "coverage" shot (usually of the person's hands or whatever) so that you can make the dialog edit. If the camera didn't take coverage (I think Landis mentions this in the DVD), then you need to cut to some other shot in the environment. The plan flying overhead was probably just a convenient piece of footage to use.
