reply

erm no, it shuoldnt be filmed in the south east, this contry consits more then just *beep* london ya know!

reply

Errm excuse me as a resident of Sunderland I have to say it isnt a DUMP as some of you have put it. Get Carter and Purely Belter were filmed in Newcastle so be happy with that. Give Sunderland a chance. Don't get me wrong I like Newcastle but you guys get a lot more attention then Sunderland. We are a bigger city too.

Jensen Ackles is so damn hot!!!!!

reply

I'm from sunderland too! Sunderland is not a DUMP! It has a brilliant history and Newcastle doesn't go with the name and in reply to the person who said it should be set in the south east, every where in the world people think we all speak like that with a posh queens english bring on the makem accent is what i say! Also thats the only place they film in britain (normally) sunderland has never really been used for a film or at least i cant think of any films. Also where in the south east is there anywhere that goes with wonderland (pronounced as wunder = sunder so it sounds the same and goes quite well, put it together malice in SUNDERland). Sunderlands great, been all over the british isles but there is only one place i love best and that is Sunderland!

reply

quite an easy answer really - its based on Alice in Wonderland and so Malice in Newcastle doesnt have the same ring as Malice in Sunderland does it!

reply

Because Lewis Carrol didnt take his inspiration for Alice in Wonderland from Newcastle, im sorry to say. Newcastle is a great city, but for a macabre take on Alice in Wonderland with a modern twist, you NEED a pretty run down city for that.

I live in Sunderland and im not ashamed to admit its pretty run down. Sounds weird but its actually one of its charms.

reply

Sunderland IS a dump but Newcastle is far much a BIGGER dump.

reply

Yep it is a dump, and I hate living here but why shouldn't it be filmed here. We have as much right as any other location. No one ever complains when movies are set in the Bronx which is CLEARLY a dump!

reply

are you all total idiots?

can't anybody see the connection between Wonderland and Sunderland?
aren't you aware Sunderland was the main inspiration behind the book?
and Lewis Carroll was from near here, and spent a lot of time here as his sisters lived in a place in Sunderland named Southwick

Malice in Newcastle doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?

Its almost as though people are jealous that there is a film being made about a place where they don't live.

It doesn't affect yous in anyway.
All you need to do is watch it and hopefully be entertained by it

Who cares whether its made in Sunderland, Newcastle, London or L.A. as long as it entertains?

reply

Becacue Newcastle is full of f u c king c u n t s who are thick and smell of piss. When is the last time you walked around newcastle the place is a dump take a look at your own city before you slag someone elses off.

ok i have, and Sunderland is still the bigger dump.

reply

You are correct, let them keep Sunderland for the title, everyone knows that the actual filming will more than likely leak over to Newcastle, as it is FAR more attractive.

reply

Might as well go the whole hog and film it in London, that's far prettier than newcastle.
Yes, Sunderland's no London, but it does have some lovely buildings, but you've got to look for them. When was the last time anyone walked along Fawcett St with their eyes raised instead of bowing them to the ground? The BBC did a grand job of filming in the city for Songs of Praise.
Mowbray Park is beautiful in Spring and Summer, the Empire Theatre is lovely whatever time of year, the Bridges Shopping Centre is lighter and airier than Eldon Square, Penshaw Monument is a much more attractive landmark than the angel of the north, the football stadium has a Tardis effect, and the hospital isn't built on top of a frigging hill!
Anyway, even if it is filmed in the more run down areas, at least those areas aren't so much an eyesore on the skyline as that lego block of a car park in Get Carter.

reply

London prettier than Newcastle? LOL

Compared to Sunderland - Newcastle is architecturally superb - buildings like the Theatre Royal and Grey's Monument to name a few.

I think the 'Get Carter' building is being demolished anyway - these 'superior' Sunderland buildings you mentioned have probably been built in the last 100 years - again at least Newcastle has history.

Every city/town/village has history, just Newcastle pinched theirs. People forget wether if it's Newcastle or any other town/village or city everyone else in the country looks down at the North East. Even them Mancs and Scousers would look at all of us and laugh. So what if Newcastle is the more recognisable name, it doesn't make it any better than the others. The NE as a whole is a dump, I know this, I live there. We're *beep* on by all the other regions, I would say though that Newcastle may seem to be the better of a bad bunch.

And who cares about history FFS, it's not where you've been it's where you're going that counts. And the NE is going nowhere fast.

Whatever lol - I still like my city.

I don't mind Sunderland - its got its own history and a lot of my friends are from there. I live in Newcastle for University and I adore it. Possibly the best night out in the country and has won best freshers week several years in a row. The NE is regenerating and is pretty nice though (especially the outskirts of Newcastle, Sunderland and Gateshead. Probably the prettiest city in the NE is Durham though.

As for why its being set in Sunderland - erm cos Malice in Sunderland is a graphic novel set in Sunderland.

As always I apologise for my poor grammar' speeling and use of RanDOm cAPitaLS

reply

Yep - I know that now I didn't when I 1st posted here - last year I think.

Why is it that everyone on here is obsessed with how the place looks. Alrite so Sunderland isn't the nicest place in the world but until you have seen the film or at least know more about it how can you say that it isn't a suitable filming location? I don't have a problem with Newcastle or London and i agree that certain areas of them are nicer than certain areas of Sunderland but every city has good and bad parts. Anyway I don't think they would have bothered naming it after the city if they weren't going to film there!
