system requirements for HL 2 on a PC?

Can anyone tell me what the system requirements are for this game and how to determine if my crappy Dell laptop can handle it? How do I check out info about my RAM, processor speed and stuff like that? And what's up with "Steam" that I keep reading about? Do I need highspeed interent to download? I realize these are stupid questions, but I have got to play this game before I die. Thanks.

Minimum: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Recommended: 2.4 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

I found that on Steam. You need steam software and a steam account to play half-life 2; but if you don't have a high-speed internet connection I suggest you buy it in the shops. To check your system capabilities Right-click on My Computer and select properties. The RAM and processor speed should be in the lower part of the window that pops up.

I think you need DirectX v9, that's what mine runs on. I thought it was scalable down to something like v6, and there's a dropdown menu for the hardware directX version, but mine is grayed out so you can't change it.

Just keep in mind that the 2.4 GHz recommendation probably applies to NetBurst processors, such as Pentium 4. Recent Intel processors, like Core 2, are faster than the NetBurst ones clock-for-clock. This was also true of AMD processors, however they used a rating system to compensate for that, e.g. "Athlon XP 3500+"

minimum requirements are a ZX spectrum with 128k RAM, disk drive and a good imagination to boot.

Seriously, this thing dont require much to run. Just love and snuggles.

I ran it on my PC which was a Athlon XP 2500+,,128mb Radeon 9800,512-768mb RAM

should try it on my HP Laptop which has P4 2ghz,512mb RAM, 32mb Radeon Mobility

got the Orange Box on the 360 for Christmas, just started it Wed. had to try and beat some other games I had in my pile first.
