I'm 19 and the game scares me

Even though I know that monsters are coming when they appear it still makes me jump, the way they build up the tension in this game is brilliant and to be honest it is one of the best if not the best game I have, though I have one question, how can a Crowbar do in one strike what it takes five or more bullets to acomplish.

Wait...how do you know this?..I thought all it did was protect him from radioactive things.......

Headcrabs, zombies and antlions scared the crap out of me at first, but I'm used to them now.

the barnacles are the most suspenseful. i couldn't tell you how many times I double-checked the ceilings with my flashlight just to make sure.

reply

I loathe the toxic headcrabs. D: And the infected people carrying them take a ridiculous number of shots to down.

Cleaning up the gene pool, one jackass at a time.

Ravenholme= Scary as f@#k. Made me jump heaps. But, i did love the G-gun plus the saw blades. Good fun.

reply

Yeah the blades were pretty fun.

Ohhh yeah Ravenholm almost made me soil my pants. So creepy, and then in episode one when your in the tunnel and its completely dark. My flashlight would run out and I'd freak out.

Yes, a game, but a really fun game! I played it in my basement in pitch black and that really helped the creepiness =p And I have to admit that I jumped a couple times when headcrabs lept out of nowhere. Ravenholm was amazing.

Scariest part is in Highway 17 in the house that overlooks the bridge. I kill all of the troops, enter the house and I have a feeling something bad is upstairs, since they destroyed the stairs and boarded up the windows

I lob up two grenades, hear nothing. I stack up some tables and go upstairs. Nothing is there. I go into a room and get some supplies...I turn around and RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME is a Poison Zombie. He must randomly spawn when you go into the room to give players a fright. He tossed a Posion Headcrab at me but missed

I still hit quick load to regain my composure

reply

If this game scares you, then don't ever play Condemned: Criminal Origins...

reply

See, now I want to play it, any chance I could see for any emotional damage I may get?

I think a GREAT deal of the scary..ness of Ravenholme is due to the audio.I tried playing the level with my tv on mute and it was a breeze,I even laughed once or twice chopping the retarded zombies in half and seeing them run at me.(try it its awesome xD)
Think about it,for one,the backround music of Ravenholme is scary as soon as you see that sign at the beginning. The roaring & backward yelling the zombies do is also pretty scary..aaaand..idk about you..but I pretty much die when I hear one of those poison/carrier bloated zombies roar...its like a dying wolf.

Its meant to be a subconscious thing,a little noise in the backround can do a world a diffrence...pretty sneaky Valve.

I must admit Ravenholm had it's freaky ass moments, but I can't even play the level anymore when a certain friend of mine is present. She screams every time a headcrab zombie hops at you.

Though the level did get less creepy when Father Grigori showed up.

reply

Ravenholm was done very well, Father Grigori kicks butt, it became way more Resident Evilish than Silent Hillish when he showed up. From Half-Life the first time I heard the barnacle sound as they picked me up was unnerving

reply

ROFL
sry i couldnt help it

as for your question about the crowbar and a bullet

the momentum from a swinging crowbar will always be more deadlier than a bullet.

there is more mass and weight with a crowbar

think of it like this:

a bulletproof vest can protect you from a handgun but a knife will go right through the vest

also, a bullet might not hit a vital organ

some people are shot 5 or 6 times and they still have enough energy to fight, while others go out in 1 or 2 hits.
