Yes, you couldn't treat animals like that in US movies, and I'm glad for that. It wasn't completely terrible, and it was completely integral to the story. They'd just need to use CGI or other movie tricks to shoot around what was probably normal in Korea.

I don't think hitting or torturing animals is ever necessary. Lack of imagination and laziness, or callousness, are the only reason animals are ever treated this way - and for display on top of it.

Think I need to donate to PETA and make sure something was done about this behavior in the film.

I think there are better charities to give to than PETA, they have some questionable practices themselves. I felt very uncomfortable watching the treatment of the animals but I'm hoping that it didn't actually occur the way we saw it and that it was some clever editing
