Other beautiful movies?

I thought this movie was intensely beautiful. What other beautiful movies do you recommend?

reply

Do you mean ones with Buddhist underlinings? Or Asian films? Well, I think you'd really enjoy Kundun, it's the movie about the life of the Dalai Lama. Some of my all time favorites are:

1. In The Mood For Love
2. Kundun by Martin Scorsese (The Last 10 minutes are GRIPPING!)
3. The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky
4. Ran by Akira Kurosawa
5. Hero with Jet Li and Maggie Cheung
6. Pan's labyrinth
7. Three Seasons
8. Volver with Penelope Cruz

They don't have to have a Buddhist theme, just have beautiful themes or visuals.

Beyond Rangoon: (very Buddhist)
The Painted Veil: (any story by Somerset Maugham is always just filled with such human truth).
Indochine: starring my fave French actress Catherine Deneauve
The Thin Red Line: although a film set during WWII with battle scenes etc., has a very Buddhist attitude. The movie that Terrence Malick waited 25 plus years to make after another beautiful film - see next
Days of Heaven - great morality play, beautifully photographed

The Cave of the Yellow Dog, it matches this movie in simplicity and beauty perfectly.

Never watch a dubbed movie, ever.

reply

Hey, I like your signature, "Never watch a dubbed movie, ever."! Thats the spirit. Dubbing is criminal! I had a really bad time when I was living in Spain because of it. Dubbing is horrible! I almost (ALMOST) prefer the American way: instead of dubbing, they make their own versions. haha what a silly world.

I love "The Promise"-it's Chinese. You'll need an open mind but, it's good.
