While watching this movie I felt that Nicole Kidman was doing an impersonation of Meg Ryan. Watch the facial expressions and mannerisms.
Nora Ephron had great success with Sleepless in Seattle and Meg Ryan. Maybe they tried for the same magic.

THANK YOU ... I watched it on afternoon TV today and it was really bugging me ... I knew Kidman's performance and mannerisms reminded me of somebody else ... so I came here to see if I could get a handle on it ... yes it was a pure copy of Meg Ryan in "You've Got Mail" and "French Kiss".

I think maybe some of that and also they were trying to mimic some of Elizabeth Montgomery's mannerisms from the original series.
By the time they shot the movie Kidman was trying to imitate two separate people.

I don't think she's intentionally trying to act like Meg Ryan, but in that hairdo she ends up kind of looking like her, especially from the side and when she makes certain facial expressions.
