Bewitched Movie Needs to be Redone!

This version was an atrocity to the original series. Granted that the creators of this movie took risky and creative action, but turned out to be a disaster. I would have preferred if they had stuck to the premise of the original. I would have like to have seen the Kravitzs and the Tates in the Movie. The casting was great, however, they missed the mark casting Will Ferrel as Darrin. I found Farrel's rendition annoying, Jim Carrey would have been a better choice. I also thought the magic special effects was pretty lame. All in all, a new Bewitched movie should be made that wil lto justice to the original and let's forget about this version!

I agree. Steve Carell's Uncle Arthur impression really nailed the final tack to the coffen.

I have been saying Jim Carrey should have played Darrin all along... glad someone else thinks the same!

"I have been saying Jim Carrey should have played Darrin all along... glad someone else thinks the same!" -- Too bad that someone was not Carrey himself. He realizes a stinker when he sees one

Yes of course, a lot of good material to be used. Every Time i see the intro on TV i just see Jim Carrey as Darrin, and Amy Adams as Samantha. Plain and Simple.

Yep, this version sucks. It should be redone properly and why not? They did two versions of the Incredible Hulk. There are two versions on Truman Capote. They put this together as if they didn't really care.

I agree Jim Carrey would have been perfect! :)

Nicole was good as Elizabeth Montomgery's samantha...but Gwyneth Paltrow might make a good Samantha too.

Jim Carrey should have been Uncle Arthur

How about doing a remake using sock puppets?

I kept thinking that Isabel was Tabitha instead of Samantha.

And what about Adam? They left out SO many characters, you'd never know it was based on the show.

Does anyone know what the Ted Bessell version of "Bewitched" was about besides Darrin and Sam before they were married? (Did anyone see the stage version? That would've been so cool!)

I found this New York Times article from when the 2005 movie came out. I think Ted really "got" the show. It's so sad that he passed before it came to fruition. I would've loved to have seen it or even read the script.

Now with the popularity of "Mad Men" bringing back that era into the national consciousness, and that "The Hulk" flop was redone to become "The Incredible Hulk" hit, I really think a "reboot" could work if the powers that be decided to do it.

It could've captured (almost- the original cast was perfect) everything that made the original show a hit: romance, humor, and some deep questions about what it means to be mortal that made the first season of "Bewitched" so special.

WOW is Will Ferrell the worst actor of all time or what? I'm sorry it was killing me and I had to say it.

It had to be redone (Nicole Kidman And Jim Carrey).

Thanks for nothing, Will ruined it big time.

reply

I think they should have done Bewitched with Will Ferrell, then in the middle of the movie Will is switched with Jim Carrey with no explanation. I think that would have boosted the rest of the movie.

reply

Yeah, the premise would be, Darrin (Will Ferrel) had to take a business trip to Florida, but when he came back with a tan, he became Darin (Jim Carrey).

Presto Magico -- It failed

reply

That's actually pretty clever. They could have had a few lines of dialogue poking fun at shows that do such things. It would have been brilliant!

Has anyone ever told you you're as boring as you are ugly?

reply

Dick York wasn't replaced "with no explanation". He had a chronic back problem and had to quit the show. Dick Sargent was the actor originally chosen for the part but was under contract to another studio at the time. He was able to step in later and replace Dick York.

In reply to your question, YES, Will Ferrell is one of the worst actors of all time. I would like to meet the person or persons who first told Will he could act or was funny and introduce THEM to my aluminium baseball bat. He is the least funny comedian of all time, at best, he's just plain irritating. I can also think of at least a dozen actresses who could do a much better Samantha than Nicole, although she was an adequate Samantha and I do like her in many of her roles. However, this movie is weak in every way, from casting to script. Very poorly done, reeks. I gave 2 stars based purely on Nicole. I agree with most posters that Jim Carrey would have been infinitely better in the role of Darrin.
