Diana and Martin's relationship...weir d?

Anybody else think their interaction is a bit odd for stepsiblings? They sort of get irritated everytime one gets/pays some attention from/to some cute girl/guy. They seem to have more of a love/hate romance relationship to me. I also read at Wikipedia.com that the show is loosely based on a French (Italian?) comic of a similar title, in which Diana and Martin are fiancees. I guess that's where the awkwardness comes from... I dunno, anybody else feel the weirdness there?

reply

Diana probably is really in love with Martin and Martin probably loves Diana and they just won't tell each other how they feel about each other. Stepsiblings should be able to data and become girlfriend and boyfriend since they both aren't blood related. They really do get irritated everytime one of them pays attention to a girl or guy which means that they really do have a love/hate romance relationship and deep down they really like each other and just won't edmit it.

According to ytv.com Diana is Martin stepsister or something...

While anime literally means animation in Japanses, Anime (note the capital letter) is a proper noun used in the west to describe the most common stylizations of Japanese Animation.

English Language Anime: Dub it, don't pervert it.

reply

Anime really does have several animation styles, and when I watch this show I don't get a really Japanese vibe off it. I mean the characters have big eyes, but it really doesn't look like Japanese Animation- maybe to my MOM or someone otherwise not aquainted with actual anime. My fave anime is FMA, which is NOTHING like this one, neither is Ninja Scroll, or Tenjho Tenge. That's a really dumb statement, and although I'm not crazy about this show, I am also not crazy about people who read an entry in Wikipedia and then take it as their own opinion.

He could've divorced Mrs. Mystery and married another woman with a daughter the same age as Martin, ever thought of that??

reply

I've heard them call each other bro and sis once or twice but I'm wasn't certain if that meant that they were actually related etc.

Which episode did they actually say that they were step-siblings.

It's based off an Italian comic that's been around for years. Very loosely based off it, I should say. Calling it one of the recent Western Anime shows is a little unfair seeing as how most of its inspiration comes from the comic series. Even if it has a semi-Anime style.

They're just watching out for each other. Although that French thing reminds me of Les cousins dangereux. Hehe :o)

It's vaguely based on a Bonelli's Italian comic Martin Mystere (black and white, 96 page monthly published from 1982, now it have 283 issue + about 60 special with more pages http://www.sergiobonellieditore.it/martin/archivio_arretrati/index.html ).

In the comics MM is an adult (he is born in the 1942 in NY), and Diana was the first his "girlfriend" for years and later his wife. Java is a Neandethal man who don't speak, that was rescued by MM during an expedition in Mongolia in the late 70 and from then they live together.

In the comic MM is a mix of Indy and Fox Mulder (but the charater was created in the 1976, with another name, 5 years before Indiana Jones movie and 17 years before X-Files), a writer and a TV conductor. Sometimes he work for secret base of the USA gov ("Altrove", in english "Elsewhere"), whose chiarman is Chris Tower, an ex CIA agent and schoolmate of MM. He have a special weapon, created 10.000 years ago by the muvian people, that paralyze animal and people.

There are 3 big plot in the continuity of the comics (spoiler for the comics inside):

- the Atlantis-Mu war, happened 10.000 years ago, with MM that discover information about this lost civilization.

- the MIB ("Uomini in Nero" in Italian), that try to destroy what MM found (like Mulder also MM discover that his father work for the MIB, but years before X-Files :) ).

- The Tata de Danan alien who in the past leave on the Earth six powerful alien artifact, the "hexagon", that created the gods of the various pantheon and varius mytical weapon and object (Excalibur, the Graal, etc).

I have noticed some stuff that would make you think that they loved each other... or it could be sibling love lol. but in return of the beast... or whatever its caled the one when java gets indtroduce and they go back in time and go into the wierd building with the big rock. and dianna gets frecked out and martin's like stay close and walk towards the green light... well she was kinda attached to his arm... lol. and then agian in what lurks beneth they were hiding under the thing form the alian and dianna slips her mirror so she can see it and she gets frecked out (agian) and then martin puts his hand over her mouth i'm like ok hes trying to not blow there cover. but then theres a another shot and you can see his other hand on her shoulder... i was like hmmm... idk i would like to see them together it would be cute lol

it seems it's a problem of censorships, maybe the producers believed it wasn't good for someone if teenagers travelled all around the world if they were of opposite sexes...

These two should be together forever, period. I mean, in each episode of the series, they always hang onto eachother so there is definitely something going on between them. I'd give this two characters a rate of 8 percent hatred between each other and 100 percent love between each other!

reply

Just you guys wait, they're going to have a real movie on Nickelodeon, not just a series of episodes, not like the one where MOM went to destroy the one pool of evil, and then he's probably going to have them get together in the movie, like something life threatening where M saves D, D saves M, or just J saves D & M, and Diana will be all like 'oh i thought we were going to die!' (throw in fear of death) and Martin will be like 'its okay', and they embrace and look each other in the eye, and then jump away from each other with the whole hand on back of head while blushing like crazy, and at the end of the movie, Martin will probably like ask out Diana or something, I dunno tho.

Or he'll just be sadistic and have them date other people.
Stepsiblings are like in-laws, they're forced by law to be related, not by blood.

Will there actually be a movie, or are you making that up?

umm, they aren't STEP siblings, they are 1/2 siblings. They have the same father. My kids are 3 and 5 and love this show, I have to watch it like- 10 times a day. Trust me- if these 2 ever hook up, it won't be on the nickelodeon network.

reply

Um, no, they ARE stepsiblings. It's been proven in countless episodes. They don't really have the same father, Diana just calls Gerard "Dad" 'cause she's just sensible like that. Her real biological father may have died years ago, and around the time her mom married Gerard (has this name actually been confirmed?) it could have been quite a while since the death of her father and because of that she may have just taken to calling him dad automatically or both of the 'rents may have insisted that they call the stepparent "Dad" and "Mom." Which is not a good option really. No one should insist that anyone especially if they are not willing. I still think Diana was just being sensible by calling him "Dad" and never calling him by name. Their father figure was only in one episode that I am aware of anyway.

::::PROOF::::

Diana: (to Java the Caveman and Billy the Martian about Martin who had been taken by a group of vampires) "Do you know how much grief I’ll get at Torrington if my stepbrother comes back as a vampire?"
["Return of the Vampire"; Martin Mystery]

Martin: (trying to settle an argument he and Diana were having) "Billy, could you please explain to my stepsister that if there were an UFO anywhere near The Centre Radars they would know within minutes."
["Zombie Island"; Martin Mystery] (The emphasis on "stepsister" was so his, not mine!)

reply

Or maybe the producers are a little too into cheesy internet fanfictions.

reply

Probably, but there didn't seem to be a problem with the step-sibling relationship in Clueless. I don't think that bothered anyone.

Well, you have to group up the relevant factors:

_Diana was never adopted by Mr. Mystery.
_They were never biologically related.
_Diana is just the other missing half of Martin - relevant, since Diana does what Martin doesn't and Martin does whatever Diana doesn't. They're the perfect match.
_Mr. Mystery can always divorce(?) - since we can tell that he's more of a workaholic than a good family guy.
_Diana can understand Martin perfectly, and vice versa with Martin.

We CANNOT call their love incest or condemn it - that's my general thought. And the above, I hope, can be as relevant as it could.
