Gundam Mac-I mean, Robotech

Does anyone see too many similarities between Gundam SEED and Macross/Robotech? Here are some examples:

Kira Yamato=Rick Hunter/whatever his Macross name is (reluctant hero who wins in the end.

Athrun=Max Sterling/Jenius (ace blue-haired pilot who's friends w/ the main char. falls in love w/ bad*** fighter chick...see below)

Flay=Minmei (romantic interest of main char. crushes his poor heart etc.)

Lacus=Minmei (pop star. Sings the enemy [and the audience] to death w/ one repetitive song)

Cagalli=Miriya (bad*** fighter chick.)

Mu la Flaga=Roy Fokker (blonde ace pilot that dies tragically)

Rau la Krueze=Khyron (psycho enemy leader)

There's more, but I'll wait for further discussion to point them out...

Well, to be honest I haven't seen much SEED, and my total Macross experience is seeing "Love, Do you Remember?" but I totally see the resemblance. Of course, in any mecha show, and any war shor period you're going to see similar characters.
Although in the interest of fairness, the creators of Macross flat-out said that Roy Fokker was a rip-off of Sleggar Law, so Macross stole from Gundam FIRST.
