Why does Gundam Seed copy other Gundam Series?

Why does Gundam Seed copy other Gundam Series?

I've heard Gundam Seed is basically the same as Gundam Zeta but with updated visuals.

Why are they reusing the same plot lines?

Gundam has always been about originality and covering new grounds like in Gundam 0083 and Gundam 08th Team.

I dunno what you're talking about but nearly ever Gundam that's not in the UC universe ripped off the original Gundam.

The biggest target Bandai/Sunrise wanted to do, was to reach a new a new audience.

To an extent, SEED has succeeded, and (mostly from annecdotal evidence) some fans of SEED has moved over to UC. Especially in Japan (cousin of a friend; which was a SEED fan, said he can't go back to SEED after watching Zeta movies on recommendation of that friend).

That is all.

It's about original as the re-imagined series of Battlestar Galactica, both series have new plot devices that embodies issues raised by events following 9/11.

As far as I'm given to understand, the Gundam metaseries has always repeated itself - whatever differences in story, setting, and characters, there are certain elements audiences are guaranteed to see in any Gundam series. It's not like that's only true of SEED.

i think i understand whare the original poster is coming from. SEED's main character is just like Amuro, both young boys who are thrust into war, brown hair, Gundam has colors of read, blue, and white, and their uniforms are about the same. Athrun can kinda be seen as the red rival on the oppisite side.
It's earth vs the zeon.. i mean ZAFT.

Archangel= White Base right down to its crew of youngsters thrust into war.
also you combine these elements from the story of the one year war along the pretty boys and multiple super duper cool gundams from Gundam Wing.

Yes one can see every gundam being a ripoff of the original but at least each new story adds something different, G Gundam...Gundam + Dragonball Z, Gundam Wing...well it's different, Gundam X...a "what if the colonies had been dropped on earth", Turn A Gundam... it's weird but ultimately it does a good job of bringing all the gundam series together.

But SEED is a VERY OBVIOUS carbon copy of Mobile Suit Gundam
SEED Destiny continues this by trying to be a rehashed and hackneyed Zeta Gundam
Kira/Shinn/Athrun "Alex Dino" = Amuro/Kamille/Char "Quattro Bageena"
Steller=Four Murasame
Destroy Gundam = Psycho Gundam
Blue Cosmos/Phantom Pain = The Titans
Zeta Gundam=Saviour Gundam

Yes all of the stories of gundam have similiar elements but theSEED/SEED destiny is almost like plagerism...and at least if it had blown my socks off and i hadn't been disappointed i might have given it a little respect. It pisses me to see a SEED/SEED destiny fan be so ignorant and not like something like Zeta gundam just because C.E. has "better characters and cooler mecha designs"

and by the way, i'm 16 and not one of these adults where the case is understandable that since they're older they're gonna say the older series are better. Wing was my first gundam, i didn't like the original so much but i love Zeta and after seeing SEED on television a couple of years ago, i thought it was pure blasphemy.

seed is far from a carbon copy of the original the relationship between athrun and kira is nothing like that of armuro and Char. char has almost nothing in common w/ athrun at all thats has not been done is almost all gundams. the only thing Destroy Gundam and Psycho Gundam have in common is the size the pyco gundam was buit to to use the thought waves od a newtype to control it and gad very few weapons. Destroy is nothing but a huge gun platform

I am another of those who watched G:Wing First, then Seed, then parts of the original. I feel sad saying that they are really similiar, but they are. For one main reason: Each Gundam series focuses on one major 'what if' spawned from the original. G:Wing is when the colonies were not dropped on earth, G:X was, and Seed was about more Genetic Modification.....But still really similiar to the original. Sad really.

I still like them all.

I'll bring destruction on you all........after my nap.

why does gundam seed copy MS gundam (and zeta)?

because it' profiable and cheaper to redo an already writen idea that was shown to make money than to change things up too much and be orignial while still using the same name. if they weren't going to copy certian things from the previous gundam series they would just make an new anime with an new name

As a fan of the original UC Mobile Suit Gundam, I really couldn't stomach watching SEED past about 16 episodes. Everything followed the same general progression as UC.

What I really take offense to isn't so much the blatant copying of MSG but rather the fact that the copy added nothing special to the story, and took out a whole lot.

Everything seems completely toned down for SEED as compared to UC. In SEED, a few hundred thousand civilians were killed in the opening atrocities. In UC, billions were murdered by both sides in a single, apocalyptic conflagration just before the series started. It was very clear that no one was a hero. Not even the protagonist. In SEED, the moral implications of war are pushed aside as much as possible. Things that get in the way of a straight up mecha romp are just hand-waved away.

Granted, Kira does seem to whine less than Amuro did, but other than that, he's almost a carbon copy of him. The rubber science also started to get to me rather quickly.

Quite frankly, I would have rather that they just remade Mobile Suit Gundam: 0079 than make a poor imitation.

reply

I think SEED was a decent "remake" of 0079. But Destiny...well...that's a different story.

"The earth’s rowdier than a group of five high school guys living under the same roof."

reply

it's because they can. they own the series why bother writing completely new material when you can simply make slight changes to the existing ones besides if you are like me and only saw seed and seed destiny then you would find it really entertaining (i cant stand old looking anime)

reply

can't stand "old looking anime"? i'm guessing you have never actually watched mobile suit gundam or zeta gundam. they are what the seed series wanted to be but couldn't. and at least in both mobile suit gundam and zeta gundam all the "old looking anime" characters actually looked apart from one another, unlike in seed where everyone has the same face with a different hair style.

i'd bring victory gundam into this as well, as i think it is the number one best gundam series of all time, but that doesn't have anything to do with seed.
