What what what what?!?

Do Italians even know what Groundhog Day is, let alone celebrate it? If it's centered around some other, italian holiday that fails to capture the excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather, I for one am glad not to see it.

I hope to see this movie. Who cares if its a remake. Who cares if I have to read subtitles. Nice to see Americans are not the only ones feeding off the flesh on Non-American cinema.
On the Italian Job... The American one was barely a remake.. but still fun.

Yeah, but you should care when it's a terrible one, and this one certainly is. Sorry, I expected it to be at least decent, given the source material.

It was borderline unwatchable.

You'd better of renting I Soliti Ignoti (aka Big Deal on Madonna Street) if you actually want a good Italian comedy. Leave this crud alone.

I don't agree. Most italians hate italian movies. It's a fact.

I'm spanish. I speak italian, and I can say this is a good movie, in a par with the original american.

I love a lot of Italian movies. I Soliti Ignoti is a comedic masterpiece. L'Armata Brancaleone is a great movie. The two first Fantozzi movies were great. These are movies pretty every Italian loves and cherishes.

This movie, on the contrary, is just crap... bad in every possible way.

It's utter rubbish. Badly acted, badly directed, misses everything the original did right. It's just crap, one of the worst remakes I've ever seen.

The film may be called groundhog day but the fact its set during groundhog day seem to me to be secondary to the fact that the main character is repeating the day over and over again, as far as I know this phenomenon is unrelated to large rodents.

well, if you take out groundhog day and just do it with some other day, we did that in America already... three times... at least, and it was just terrible... everytime, and it involved a generally regarded better holiday, "Christmas"... all three times!

The biggest joke about the original film is that this is one of the worse national Holidays around. And the main character hates this holiday and this stupid town, and throughout the movie he has to change to be a more tolerant kinder person. If it's just a regular day, then it's loses that's connect to the audience, who normally agrees that this day does suck with it's lameness, living out that dull day hundreds or thousands of times would just suck.

What seriously bothers me with this remake is that every single scene has been re-made in exactly the same sequence as in Groundhogday... I'm watching it now and I can accurately predict what the main character is going to say or do in advance..

Of course, it's a remake.. but this movie doesn't add a word to the original movie!

the movie actually changes a lot of details AND the order of scenes relative to the original. for example, this one shows filippo with a series of women (and a man) instead of just Nancy in the original before getting to Rita. Rita here has a kid so their dates are not only different but come at a different point in the film and the bit I call "god day" in the original comes at the transition from act two to act three. here, the day filippo tells rita what's going on is the final day of the loop, much closer to the end of the film than in the original

also, filippo coaches enrico in getting together with marta, while phil has nothing at all to do with larry's attempt to pick up nancy.

this IS a remake, so there are definite similarities, a stand in for ned, a stand in for mrs, lancaster, a stand in for the old man. but there's plenty of little changes and additions--going to the market with the hotel owner, actually getting to know the old man, dealing with that woman who's a fan and keeps coming to his room for sex...
