How's the 5 hour recut DVD version?

I was just wondering how the 5 hour cut compares to watching the trilogy as individual films. Is it more of a curiousity piece, or could it arguably be a definitive way to watch the story unfold? Furthermore, is it worth getting if I already own the trilogy? Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Its freaking expensive I'll tell ya that. My sis got it for me when she was visiting San Francisco. It retailed there for $32. The cuts are decent although they didn't really do a good job in some scenes. It was literally a cut and paste job. The wording in IA 3 that says like "5 months before Yans death" are still left intact. It feels awkward since this is supposed to be the true and chronological way to watch the trilogy.

The thing that probably sucked the most about the 5-hour cut is the deletion of the opening and closing credits along with the Buddhist scriptures that give the film a religious theme. Part of the beginning IA sequence where you see young Yan (Shawn Yue)breaking a car, evading his enemies while tapping morse codes, and complaining to Sp Wong on how hard it is to endure Triad life, is cut as well.

Overall, I think this is a great way to watch the trilogy if you haven't seen it before. I still prefer the IA trilogy over the Departed anyday, and the same can be said for this edition.

$32 for 3 movies bought in one of the most expensive cities in the world is hardly expensive.

It is available in the AZNV.TV website. You can watch hundreds of Asian films there. It would only cost you US$5 for 30 hours and US$10 for 75 hours.I saw the uncut version of Infernal Affairs in that website.

Good post

Yeah, but because its one film, I'm paying for something else I can get like two-blu ray discs and special features included. For a 5 hour cut that lacks any features, it is a rip off these days.

I've just finished watching the series and now want to watch this 5hr cut. Does anyone know of any site which sells it or where it can be downloaded? Why is it so rare? You'd think someone would have ripped it by now.
