Yeung

The ending has got me confused. Is Yeung really a mole, or is he just someone Lau wants to avert his guilt to?

reply

He wasn't really a mole. He and Sam had a mutual agreement to get what each other wanted, but underlying that, Yeung has and always will be a cop first.

Thank you!

if u watch the end before Andy Lau shot Leon, u will see LEon is copying the Tony leung's "Sorry I am police"

reply

It had me confused too, so is he a corrupted cop?

reply

Just using Sam to get information on other gangsters to arrest them. Watch IF 2 to see Wong's previous relationship with Sam.

reply

Yeah it was obvious Wong and Sam had a friendly relationship.

reply

Yeung is something of a shadow of the cop that Wong used to be (back at the start of I.A. 2), willing to break the rules and make 'deals with the devil' so-to-speak.

At the end of the day he's still a cop, but not a completely clean-cut 'good guy' in the way SP Wong ended up.

reply

Corrupted, none the less.

reply

I guess "corrupted" is a point of view. He was not making deals with Sam for his own personal gain (or at least we assume not), he was doing it as a rather shadowy "means to an end".

Yeung seems to be a supporter of 'the ends justify the means', again like Wong used to be when he was younger (IA2).

It's because of this Yeung is one of my favourite characters.

reply

What was he trying to do?

reply

He was cleansing the force of moles. We see this happen a few times in the movie.

reply

if Yan is a police undercover as a gangster. Ming is a gangster undercover as a police. Yeung is the combine of both of them. Its simple. After Yan's death, it was Yeung who need to stop Ming to end the whole trilogy.

reply

In 1991, Chan Wing Yan (tony Leung) expelled from police train school class and Yeung graduated in No.1 in all reports got distinctions.

and Yeung is still a cop. if u watched the movie, Andy Lau is the traid sent cop.

reply

Yeung is just a police constable there. and his role is similar to Tony's Chan Wing Yan

reply

Yeung is ASSIGNED and legally SANCTIONED to be a mole. He actually has carte blanche to be both good and bad and he takes full advantage of it. He is a double agent as far as Sam knows, but he is a triple agent in reality.

reply

Yeung is a mole to the gangster just like Yan.

reply

In addition to that,Yan and Yeung were cadetmates in the Academy.
