Same story as Musa

I'm not entirely sure which script was written first (I would assume it was Musa since it came out a few years earlier), so did Heaven and Earth rip that story, or is it even based on the same script? These stories are so similar it's almost the same movie.

For my money though, Musa was far better, I would recommend seeing it for anyone who has seen Heaven and Earth. It's relatively unknown, comparatively speaking (despite being one of the biggest budget movies to come out of Korea).

I also thought the magic element in Heaven and Earth was a little forced.

Musa is a rip on a old samurai film Hidden Fortress (i think its this one off the top of my head) so you could say they are both borrowing from that.

Yeah I remember Hidden Fortress, havent seen it in a while but I dont remember them being too closely related. I remember Fortress being a little more comedic (for lack of a better term). The story seemed also to be segmented, almost like a collection of short stories, similar to Huck Finn. Ill have to see it again to remember completely.

But putting that one aside, wouldnt you agree that Musa and Warriors have almost the exact same plot, almost scene for scene?

reply

ans so is star wars (inspired by The Hidden Fortress)

reply

It's not HIDDEN FORTRESS that this movie is pulling from... it's SEVEN SAMURAI, another great Kurasawa.

Musa for one thing was to long and W.O.H.A.E was to short overall W.O.H.A.E is the better film by far.

For what my two cents are worth, "Musa" had the same staggering production value, but was a bit too pretentious and overblown in its heroic schtick. But yes, watching the movie, memories of "Musa" (Which I saw in a theater, that should give it an edge) kept creeping in !

reply

The same with me.
Like when they arrived at that fortress or the battle there, were the two things that I recognized of Musa.

reply

I would figure the whole foreigner in another land and battles through the desert would have clued you all in faster than just seeing an abandoned fortress.

I was reminded of Musa by reading the back of the DVD.

reply

i watched both , and i think both are good movies
but if you want to compare the 2 , dont Musa is far ahead better the comparison is meaningless with all respect to W.O.H.A.E fans . and itsnt just words . drama structures , plot , custumes , directing , overall ciematography , W.O.H.A.E is a small entertaining little movie that does the job welldone , Musa is Cinema

Now just because both movies have some similarities don't mean they are neccessarily the same. Just take a look at whats similar :

- both movies have a have a specific plot about characters who will try to accomplish a desired mission at no matter what costs
- both movies have group of warriors and soliders who are being followed by another group of warriors and soliders
- both movie have character(s) from a foreign country fighting for another country
- both movies involves the absolute protection of non-combatants and to bring them to safety
- both movie involves a major female character(who both don't really help the cause)
- both movies involves warriors in exile
- both movies takes place in the desert and have themes of struggling to survive in it
- both movies have turkic and non-chineses characters make an appearance
- both movies final scene battle scene takes place in a fortress
- both movies, the majority of all the characters die

But even after all of that, both movies and distinctivly different. Different storyline, different plot, different time era. And I also did think Musa was a little better polished, but both movies are good in their own way. I like the costuming (not sure how accurate they are..). Much different than the usual cleaner fantasy stuff we're use to seeing.
