reply

year 1877 with current Turkish flag and wrong gear of soldiers.
who cares? I care.

reply

You're right 419. The current red Turkish flag was inspired by the Soviet one after the revolution of 1917. Kemal Ataturk had good relations with Soviet Russia and he adopted a similar red flag. I have one question though...
Isn't Azeri Turkish identical to the common Turkish? It certainly hasn't got the same differences as Russian and Ukrainian.

reply

but you are wrong putin-4, Turkish flag was re-desing at the era of Mahmut The Second(1808-1839)-probably soviets were smuggling goods at those times- and almost got her current shape with cresent and star on red backround,(so you are wrong too 419) after republic was set up, National Assembly just changed the shape of star and crecent abit and that is all...

Turkish flag is 3000 years old Anatolian symbol. The Star represends hand of Kubaba(later Ida) while giving birth to zeus. and crescent indiacates world(not moon:))
by the way this movie is awsome, ıt isnt About Histosy itself 10 times better than Lawrence of Arabia and witnesses upcomming the intelligence might of Red Sultan.

reply

There were no Soviets until 1917, guys. Just throwing that out there. And the Russian Empire wasn't especially interested in smuggling goods in the early 19th Century. They were trying to conquer the Ottomans!

reply

Yeah, Soviet Federative Socialist Republic of Russia was established in November 1917 after the October revolution. Soviet Union itself was founded in 1922 and the iconic red flag came to use in 1923. Although also a symbol of communism, the color red was and is generally quite popular in Russia.

The Ottoman flag dates back to tanzimat reforms in 1844, four years before Marx wrote The Communist Manifesto.

reply

aboout the turkish flag and it's history not much bout the movie :)
the flag which contains a crescent and a star over a red layer first used in 1793 at ottomans but the star at that flag has eight pints.at the time of Sultan I. Abdülmecîd Han the star changed to 5 sided in 1842..

The film is about the russian-ottoman war in 1876-1878 .so; the flag at the movie is a correct one ;)

and the language or the pronounciation of turkish didn't irritate mein arussian language movie. i think its succesfull but i really wonder that why the director hire a turkish language expert or someone like that?

i like the movie ,and it ahd my sympathy because it's not an american hollywood production!

nope, it is not identical. every Turkish person cannot understand the dialogues. but with some effort you can make out what they're saying, esp if you're acquainted with old vocablary.

I liked the movie in general, but the moviemakers could have paid more attention on this, imo.

My God, you are really myopic. I can only advise you to read some well-written history books that were not created by people for whom the Motherland comes before everything else. And, by the way, Russia did get its ass kicked during the Crimean War by the Ottoman Empire, if that has any importance to you.

reply

What are you talking about? It is movie talk, not crazy politics talk. There is many places over runet to discuss it.. glupo vyglyadish so storony odnim slovom..

reply

The Main Turkish character the subordinate of Osman Pasha is played by Ukrainian born Gosha Kutsenko, so he does not speak good Turkish. This movie was supposed to be cheap.

This movie is fiction, not historically accurate. It was written by Boris Akunin, I think he is originally from Georgia. Akunin invented this super spy called "Anwar". The Tsarist Army also was not made up of idiots like this movie portrays them. The initial attack across the Danube was carried out at night. The Ottoman counter-attack at Schipka Pass collapsed, and cost the Ottoman Army thousands of casualties. Plevna was won after all Ottoman supplies to the city were cut off, and the Ottoman Army there was forced to surrender after several of the Ottoman defensive lines had been taken.

"Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the Kalashnikov!"

Are you stupid, why would Russians find Turkish actors - do Turks hire Russian actors?

reply
