My word, you really don't know anything about Muslims, don't you? Alright sonny, first off, only one-third of Muslims live in the Middle East. Even they don't tend to all be religious at all - the media attends to cover mostly the ultra-religious Wahhabis sect who are the current rulers of Saudi Arabia - incidentally, many Muslims who are not religious or who are historically aware tend to view the ultra-religious Saudis with suspicion - mostly as they are puppets put in by the British to keep the Arabs in line using religion as a tool to keep them stupid and to lead hem like sheep - in fact a lot of the people who dislike westerners in the Muslim world tend to be anti-religious leftists who favor a socialist style of governing. Mahatir Mohammed of Malaysia for example, is a modernist who is a very staunch critic of the west - he only cozys up to the religious parties for political support in parliament, that's all.
A lot of the non-Arab Muslim states have retained their old pre-Islamic customs - for example, in India and Bangladesh, women dress up in flashy sarees like the ones seen in this movie Touch of Pink for cultural purposes - it's interesting that the OP says that they dress up like Hindus as the only purely Hindu country in the world which is Nepal (NOT India!) most women dress up not in sarees but in salwar khameez dresses like those worn in Pakistan, mainly because of the weather and cultural norms!
In countries like Island nations like Thailand and Indonesia, women love to dress up in flashy colorful outfits to show off their financial status and fashion style - incidentally in India, where live, most of the movie stars are Muslim and everyone seems to have forgotten their shirts or wear skirts so tiny they are suitable only for six year olds - it's like watching a Whitesnake heavy metal music video circa 1987, only with a bunch of South American Ricky Martin lookalikes dancing in it! Heavens above, they'll catch their death of cold if they're not careful!
Bottom line is, people are NOT homogenous, different places have different customs, that's all.
Hope that's cleared it up for you.....
