DISSAPOINTMENT!!!

SPOILERS!!!!

It was ok.. but when i first looked the cover i thought that there's this mysterious van helsing type of guy chasing a real mean looking werewolf and such.. i like that kind of crap.. but the movie is about man who has Lycantrophy "disease" and think's he's a werewolf and that was a little dissapointment and it wasn't really entertaining.

Ps. There's two different dvd covers and in my cover there's a big mean werewolf in it so that's why i thought there would really be an actual werewolf.

It was disapointing yes. BUT it was a helluva lot better than that muck Van Helsing for sure.

Same here

I expected so much more from it

This is based in a true story.
Not very good, but much better than "Van Helsing". That one was a great piece of crap.

Gotta disagree with all of the above ('cept the bit about Van Helsing being cack) and defend this flick: sure it was slow burning, but in my opinion that only added to it's ambiance. I was gripped.
IMO a very beautifully shot, atmospheric, intelligent horror/thriller.
The detractors of Romasanta appear to have come to it looking for a more mainstream werewolf movie, (SPOILER - like for instance, one with a werewolf in it!) perhaps that's why they were disapointed.

I hated this movie... I also saw the werewolf on the DVD-cover. Damn, I got mad! It´s like putting Jenna jameson on an American pie-movies cover, without having her in the cast! Many people would rent it/buy it for the reason to watch her, and don´t tell me they wouldn´t be mad when they found out that she wasn´t in it! Why have something on the cover that does not appear in the movie? Should be illegal... Like putting up a lottery, and promising a few millions to be won, but no prizes really exist... Yes... I really was disapointed...

Yeah I think this is the reason why the flick has recieved so much criticism, which is a shame as the film is actually very very good.

If you (very understandably, due to misadvertising) come to it looking for a traditional werewolf movie ala American Werewolf In London, then you're not gonna leave satisfied.

The fact that this was a Spanish film was made by Paco Plaza should have been your first clue that it's not going to be a Hollywood-style cheese-fest. Spanish films are very visually artful, and Spanish filmmakers love mystery and moral ambiguity, which are this film's strongest points. Thus if you generally don't like Spanish films, you are unlikely to enjoy this one.

Also, in the film Manuel Romasanta is dressed precisely as the film's promotional art portrays him. A cursory reading of liner notes makes it clear that he is one of two main characters, along with Barbara, and that he is arrested as a serial killer who claims to be cursed.

Finally, as the film is loosely based on the true story of Europe's first documented serial killer, Manuel Romasanta, you can't expect it to be a story with fantastical creatures running about, so much as a murder/suspense/psychological thriller tale. (IMO, that is all the more chilling since the gruesome killings were perpetrated by a real person, not some fictional monster.)

Given all that, I don't see how anyone could have expected a Van Helsing-style film.

Given all that, I don't see how anyone could have expected a Van Helsing-style film.

When I bought the DVD at the used bookstore, I only had the cover to go on. It featured a man dressed stylishly in the same way as Van Helsing. Plus, it featured a wolf on the cover and had Werewolf in the title. The DVD cover was the only thing I had to go on: I hadn't seen the trailer nor read any reviews. I wish I had because, unlike what you say, this movie was not a suspense thriller. It was tedious and the characters dull. I wish I had turned it off halfway through.

I know nothing about Spanish filmmaking style. If this movie is the epitome of Spanish filmmaking style then I will stay away from Spanish films in the future.

The film was okay and technically well made but it came across as a superficial study of lycanthropy. Also the ending was weak.
