How did a Mexican get there?

How do either of the Mexicans make sense? Who do the movie makers think they are fooling? Those guys really don't look like they are from that region.

Alot of Kazakhs look asian. However, many of them are mixed with Slavic folks. Bascially they look like Asian/White mix.

The Mexican actors had dark features and almost European/indigenous peoples mix so fit rather will with the "mixed" ancestry that predominates Kazakhstan.

I should know because I went there in 2006!

reply

The Slavic mix didn't happen at that time.

There are red haired and yellow haired Qazakhs, but that is because of their intermixing with other Turkic tribes and some are probably descendants of the Scythians who roamed their land before Chenghiz Khan, Turks, and Huns.

They had lots of Qazakh extras in the movie but the original poster is right, they did not look Qazakh at all...they (the 2 lead characters) might be able to pass for an Afghan or a Middle Easterner, but not a Qazakh.

I'm not sure about that as his grandmother was the sister of Maria Felix who is Yaqui... an indigenous group.

I haven't seen this or know of Kuno Becker, but many Mexicans (who are mostly native) can pass as Central Asian Turkic peoples. They are related (albeit via thousands of years of history) as their ancestors crossed into the Americas from that region and they seem to be mostly related to the Altaic peoples (with the exception of Na-Dene speaking groups who are more related to Yeniseians and other speakers of Dené-Yeniseian and also Georgias et cetera, speakers of the Caucasian branch of Dené-Caucasian languages). Most Native Americans (Mexicans included) still have the look of the steppes people of Eurasia, though many are slightly darker.

just curious, what good did he do?

anyway, casting a hispanic actor as a middle-eastern character didn't help 13th warrior become a blockbuster, i don't want to point it out as a cause here, but there does look like a pattern! :p
