It's an Irish Film, not British. The character's name is Irish for an obvious reason. Paddy Breathnach is Irish. Good flick nevertheless.

reply

It's not an Irish film. It was based in Belfast, in Northern Ireland, hence its being British. Just because its about Catholics doesnt mean anything.

reply

must have been just me then that noticed that most of the action takes place down south and had mostly southern actors then!

reply

This is an Irish film.Northern Ireland is Irish. Our day will come.

Smartie queen said "It's not an Irish film. It was based in Belfast, in Northern Ireland, hence its being British. Just because its about Catholics doesnt mean anything."

Was it based in Belfast? I thought it was based on the island of Ireland both north and south. Does it really matter where a film is based, does that decide what nationality the film is? if so then what nationality is "Star Wars" or other sci-fi films? In starship troopers the film starts off in Buenos Aries but i would doubt you would class it as and Argentinain film, maybe you would, by your logic that seams the way you do it. So how do you decide where a film is from? I don't have the answer mabye you should ask the dirctor and let him decide, instead of having silly arguments and bringing religion into it.

reply

It's a British films (Northern Ireland) set in Rep. Of Ireland, which isn't part of Britain

Me too. Billy Connelly has a British passport and he's Scottish. I'm sure Tom Jones has a British passport too and he's Welsh. What seems to be your point?

If you see me comin' you had better run! run! run! from Dearg Doom.

reply

Its obviously Irish. Its made by Irish people hence it is an Irish film. Just because it starts in Belfast doesn't make it a British film. Someone from Northern Ireland can legally be considered either Irish or British depending on how they view themselves. Its called dual nationality. Anyone from Northern Ireland involved in making the film clearly considers themselves Irish as it has a very Irish theme. Everyone else was from the Republic. I cant believe some people are trying to claim this as British.

reply

It was a frickin co-production (Ireland/UK) just take a look at the films details, now get over it!

I'm not gonna get into an argument about what country the north belongs to, but all the actors are from the south, the director is from the south and most of the film is based in and shot in the south... the main character even has an irish name. seems like an irish film to me

reply

Northern Ireland isn't British. It's part of the United Kingdom, but not Britain.

The full name is the United Kingdom Of Great Britain And Northern Ireland, which implies the North is seperate from the UK. Or so I would believe.

It's still an Irish film though. It's like Father Ted, while the studio and the channel may have been British, all the talent was Irish.

reply

Northern Ireland is STILL Ireland, I don't care if it's "The United Kingdom and Northern Ireland" (just because the Brits have their filthy paws on it!!) .... it's still Irish soil, they can't let go of the last remnants of their glorious empire - my arse!!

it's Northern Irish AND Irish

A film about the cruel and tragic world of greyhound racing that calls itself a comedy? Only Irish lovers will like this sort of crap. What is funny about a bunch of scumbags killing greyhounds? This film isnt funny or intersting, just a load of Irish cliches made to appeal to yanks no doubt. You know we have council estates and un employment in England too? Yet everytime you see an Irishman in a film its all about how hard done by they are, and how tough they are. Give it a rest.
