Saves rival's life and that's the 'thanks' he gets?!?

The main character saved the life of the other gang leader when they played that russian roulette type game. Remember?
So, near the end, why did the rival(and his gang) beat the central character half to death?

It's also a matter of "You have seen me at my weakest; now that I am back at my peak, I must destroy you/the evidence of my weakness."

See The Madness of King George for another example of this.

That scene really made my blood boil!!

So this is how liberty dies-with thunderous applause?

What in particular happened in that film?

You mean in The Madness of King George?

**SPOILERS**

George goes mildly insane. He has two faithful retainers who take care of him, play along with his madness, and do everything they can to keep him safe and healthy. When he snaps back to reality, he fires them.

Watch the movie, though. It's astounding.

Huh! That's gratitude for you, isn't it,
treating his retainers like that?
