Rabbit suit?

I was just curious as to why the girl in this movie wears the suit? And it also occurred to me, that the very same suit is in the Dutch movie Godforsaken. I'm sorry if this has already been asked, from the looks of the board it hasn't.

Thank you! :]

Who cares? I guess it should be explained, but the randomness of it is pretty charming. It really makes the scene where she's staring the guy down to get a seat for the old man; the rabbit suit just adds to the awkward quality of the whole situation.

reply

i think it's a symbol for the fact that she doesn't belong in that world. If you remember she gets into a fight and afterwards she takes off the top of the suit - it's the time when they get close, so in order to get closer to bulcsu she has to become closer to that kind of world.

Why do you wear that stupid man suit?

Kara Thrace will lead the human race to its end.

reply

Her name is Eszter Balla. And yes, she's hot. :)

It's definitely a Teddy Bear suit. And I'm pretty sure she wears it for work. If you watch closely in the scene where she brings her father dinner on the train she tugs at the suit and says, "I hated this job anyway". To me that implys that she got fired from whatever job required that she wear it.

reply

exactly

reply

It's symbolic, but not many people understood this film

No mortal could possess it! No kingdom could command it!

After she has a fight someone says do you really want to tell the police you got beaten by a teddy bear. She also tells her father she hates her job and wants a real one indicating the suit.

Makes you think of those people wearing Ronald McDonald clown costumes in all kinds of weather freezing or burning up waving at cars roaring past.

reply

Yes, I think you're right. I came to the same conclusion when she was having dinner with her father, the metrocar driver.. and she says she hated the job anyway.

I'm sure that each detail in the film was not intended to symbolize something greater about society.

reply

It's definitely a Teddy Bear suit.
It's referred to as a teddy bear suit in the film. In the subtitles anyway.

reply

True.

"Did the bear have a ticket?"

reply

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. That conversation. It's for her job.

reply

It is a bear suit and she wears it for her job, if the english subtitles are correct.

Not everything in the movie has to have some hidden meaning but I think there is something to her outfits. Especially with the change from bear to angel.

About the bear suit, I didn't think much about it until the scene where she leads Bulcsú to the tunnel and gives him the flare. It made me think of her as his guiding light, his North Star. It made sense to me since the North Star, which has for centuries been used as a navigational tool, is part of the Ursa Minor (Little Bear in Latin) constellation (same thing as the Little Dipper). She has to be a sort of guide.

And regarding the angel outfit. Her comment to her father about him being an angel came to mind when I saw her in the final scene. Didn't her father appear to have a halo over his head when she told him that? Would that also make her an angel? She also did say, "I like to come down here" to her father, as if she descends into the metro like an angel from heaven. Or did her helping Bulcsú escape the underground in a way earn her her wings? She did lead Bulcsú to the pusher in his dream, and got him to go to the party. Also, the scene where she makes the kid stand up from the train seat shows her benevolent nature. The transformation had to mean something.

On a side note, I did notice a lot of play with lights in this movie. I liked it.

The Constellation... the bear! wow, I wouldn't have thought about it until I read it here, it's an interesting theory...

I wonder why this movie causes so many questions about it's symbols ... (though I believe that a lot people see it without at least thinking about it and just taking it as an entertaining triller.)
For me it's really more deep than that...
I also enjoy of giving meaning to every detail, even if the director didn't have this intention!!! ... it is what does a piece of art, since every one is free to attribute subjective values to it...

crazy symbology or not, i love this movie and the girl looks hot in the fur suit!

Would you pound a girl in a bear suit?

A hero reborn

hell yea!

reply

Wow. Okay, the bear makes sense now. But when I saw the movie I thought it was a rabbit suit (despite bear in the subtitles) and that the rabbit showed Bulscu the tunnel a la Alice In Wonderland.

Darn! She makes one hot bear/rabbit/angel.

reply

I figure that the bear suit is for work, and not something she particularly likes, because when she goes to the costume party, she chooses quite a different costume.

reply

i thought it was paying tribute to david lynch's rabbits. :)

also i think the pusher, bulcsu and the girl are all one person.

the owl part also seemed to be paying tribute to lynch's twin peaks

O-< O-< O-< O-< O-< <----- people sleeping in a boring movie

reply

the people who say it's symbolic but don't explain the symbol are pretentious morons. i think the majority will agree it's meant to make her stand out, and in the film is explained partially as a part of her job.
