I think its a generation thing

I'm 19, this came out while I was 14 or 15 I think. I've noticed that my generation seems to love this movie and prefer it to the original, and the generations in front of us seem to loathe this movie. I think part of it depends on how much you love the original.

I'm a huge horror fan, and I respect and appreciate the original for being such an important movie for the genre. But I find it kind of corny and boring.

and this one definitely isn't perfect, theres a few things I hate about it
-too many of the characters talk the same. too much cursing
-some of the violence is unnecessarily graphic
-I thought the rape scene was pointless, and it was just added to be shocking

but overall, I LOVE this one and actually prefer it to the original, just my opinion. But I definitely think its a generation thing.

Generations can be gapped, though. While the original is my No. 1 movie of all time, I totally agree with your assessent on the remake. The language, violence and rape were all over the top, but the bulk of the story added depth to the original, while taking time to recite familiar lines and scenes for the classic fan. I was 34 when this came out and really liked this movie. The sequel, however was crap.

"He came home." - Dr. Sam Loomis from the original HalloweeN

Maybe. However, the original is my favorite horror movie. But I still really like both of the Rob Zombie re-imaginings. It added something different and I liked that. Better than seeing the same film over and over and them messing it up to the point of almost no return(Rick Rosenthal).

I'm 19, this movie came out when I was 13, and I like this one a lot better. While the original was good(and I'm watching it on tv right now) I honestly find it REALLY boring. That's just my opinion. My brother made a comment about how just horrifying the deaths are in the remake and in the second one Rob made and while it's hard to watch for me it just seems more realistic in the sense that murder is really horrific. The original seemed fake. I feel like that makes me sounded screwed up lol

The first hour of the original is a giant bore once you've seen it already.

reply

Every hour of this one is boring whether you've seen it or not.

well, I'm in my 40s, and I find the original dull and flat. not even remotely frightening or disturbing. Zombie's remake is VERY disturbing, and I greatly prefer it.
I've never been a big fan of slasher flicks tho, and that's ultimately what any version of Halloween is. However, Zombie certainly knows how to do slashers.
I'd bet Carpenter would have LOVED to do something more like Zombie's version back in the 70s, but he certainly couldn't have gotten away with it back then.
That said, Zombie's version couldn't exist without Carpenter's original. There's no denying Carpenter has had a HUGE influence on horror .. personally tho, I think he's done several FAR better movies than Halloween. To me, the original was "just another slasher flick".

So "better then [sic] someone like Ulli Lommel" = "one of the greatest directors today"?

honestly i like both Rob Zombie and Ulli Lommel. "greatest" is a possible stretch lets say RZ is one of my favorite directors today because of how brutal or gritty his film characters can be. I like that there is no clear cut hero

He's a BRILLIANT filmmaker. This film wasn't perfect, but it contained many flashes of genius and was the best Halloween since the original and was in many ways better.

Wow, you guys have no clue. It's a shame that people like you are responsible for the downfall of movies and society

It's a taste thing.

Zombieween is a dreadful slice of sh!t. And I say this as a fan of Zombie's other films - including Lords of Salem.

They thought they were alone...

tell me what great HORROR directors we have today? tell me. Im waiting for an answer.

Yeah sure there are great directors out there, but as far as horror goes, NOPE, not really.

Reineke and anybody who thinks people should be shot because they have a difference of opinion on a director is a complete douchebag.

The biggest problem with this movie was I hated every character in it, even the heroine. I found it an obnoxious and uninvolving movie.

reply

that's my problem with it too. i hate the dialogue. its horrible. lazy. white trash, too much swearing. i mean its a horror film so no one is expecting anything great but rob zombie is a horrible writer. all of the characters seem fake. people dont talk like that, at least no one most people can relate to. i think he might be a passable director if he wasnt the one writing the script. just atrocious.

and get rid of his talentless wife in all his filmss. she sucks.
