John Carpenter said he doesn't like the remake at all

He said it took away the mystique of Micheal myers.

He's stated that in Youtube videos as well. He's right. While having a back story isn't always a bad thing, the way Rob did it was.

dave626, in the link the OP posted, there's reference to a Halloween documentary that was made:

"Speaking at the New York Film Academy (via iHorror), Carpenter discussed a Halloween documentary special, where he took exception to some comments made by Zombie."

Do you know which documentary that is and where I might be able to find it?

Sadly the Youtube video has been made private...
But the article is here...sorry don't know how to make it clickable, just copy and paste...

This was the documentary:

It was really just one thing that Rob said, which was that "John Carpenter was cold", that set him off.

I've heard two stories. That one where Carpenter was indifferent from the Halloween Inside Story and another from the making of Halloween on the Blu Ray that stated Carpenter told Zombie to make it his own. Even Carpenter himself doesn't know why Zombie said he was cold to him. So my take is to believe John Carpenter over Rob Zombie who at the time was looking to make himself look better.

I was just watching the original and find it's more about fear in a neighborhood that specifically happens on a certain Halloween night. Everything in the original leads to those moments.

None of the remakes captured that same fear because they concentrated on making the movies more about Michael Myers and how he became what he did.

The remake should have been renamed to "The Story Of Michael Myers" instead of "Halloween".

Haha, Carpenter owned that loser. Zombie sucks, and this movie blows.

He's right for his movie. But for a remake, knowing Michael Meyers since 30 years, the background was the best part of it. Even though it could have been done way better with real characters instead of the stereotypical white trash Zombie characters.

Agreed. I actually read a fan script that did the remake justice
