The Ending

I recall seeing the History Channel documentary on this some time ago. I thought the shark got away. Was that ending of the shark being caught completely fabricated?

My understanding is that a shark was killed in the bay that feeds from Matawan Creek. Apparently it was killed by beating it to death with an oar. It was stuffed and displayed by a local newspaper. This may or may not have been the shark that had killed the swimmers in the creek. There is debate over whether the shark was a juvenile great white or a bull shark and whether it was one shark or several. Just ordered Fernicola's book to get more details.

Yeah the way the ending played out in this movie was a complete fab. Its commonly accepted now that there were more than one shark involved in these incidents. Of course that never came out in the movie story line. Was a good movie though. Much better than that rip-off Open Water they kept advertising during commercials. :)

It could have been one shark.

The truth is, no one knows.

I think the Illuminati was involved. They were testing a zero gravity anti-sub particle gun and that dang Alex the lifeguard witnessed it. They bought him off and he claimed it was a shark when in fact he knew it wasn't.

When a second attack happened, and other people saw the shark, what they actually saw was the shark that the Illuminati released into the water to throw everyone offtrack. The shark that was eventually caught was raised in captivity by the Illuminati and did in fact kill, but it was all a cover story so the Illuminati could go on with their clandestine operations unseen.

Alex went on to other things, but was always on the Illuminati's payroll for the rest of his life.

A shark was caught that summer that when cut open had 15 lbs of human flesh in it's stomoch and part of the little boy's ribs

The shark was caught (and killed)in Raritan Bay by Michael Schleisser, who was a taxidermist and lion tamer for the Ringling Bros. Circus. Supposedly the remains in the stomach were verified as human, but there has been some doubt as to how strong that confirmation was due to technology in 1916. The remains may have been "verified" as human to quell the uproar over the attacks. Unfortunately, after the alleged rogue shark was put on display it was promptly stolen and was never seen (in its entirity) again.
