7.7 ? GTFOH

one of the most boring, crappy films i've ever seen.

i half expected this whole film to be one big giant "None of it was real, they were all actors and this is how I train actors for movie roles! the guns were paintball guns and such!"

i was shocked at the end of the film, that this was not the case. this film was actually serious. what a giant piece of *beep* how on earth did this film get a 7.7 rating on here?

i guess if you are a huge fan of detective novels, this is one giant detective novel film, but oh gosh it was bad.

reply

Totally disagree; it was hilarious and drammatic at the same time.

Why on earth did you expect paintballs?

Oh, and "shocked at the end of the film... was actually serious"

Are you kidding?

He says, hey why not bring them all back and all the dead people are in his room...
or when he makes fun of the multiple ending in the Lord of the Rings etc..

Excellent film. Its has elements of spoof without the stupidity that has come to typify spoof films.

Totally agree ntsci

Absolutely brilliant film. Wish I could rate it 11/10. The measly overblown PG-13 cornfests they make these days ( see the 'Red' movies for a good example ), just look so flimsy and amateurish next to KKBB.

SPIRAL OUT!........KEEP GOING!

reply

Yep, I gave it a 10/10.
Director's commentary with the three, Shane Black, Robert, and Val has more chuckles. Also the gag reel. It seems like these guys really had some fun making this one.

I attended the world premiere at the Grauman. I was lucky to be a seat filler.

My recommendation, watch it a few more times.

When I saw it the first time, even a second, I was very underwhelmed. Not sure what is was supposed to be. But, after seeing it many times on cable, I've grown to love this movie. It's one of those that grows on you.

Try it and see. Watch it a few more times and see if you don't feel the same.

You have forced yourself to love it. How sad.

Sad? Maybe. But it might be like music. I find stuff I immediately think is terrific, usually disappears for me just as quickly. Whereas stuff that slowly grows on me; they are the ones that are keepers.

I'm right there with you. It's the kind of film that grows on you if you give it a chance. At its heart, it's a buddy comedy and I enjoyed following the characters to the end. And what a revelation that Val Kilmer and RDJ would work so well together! Plus Michelle Monaghan has a great on screen personality; her face was always busy.

It's possible the movie didn't do as well as it could have because there were no "big stars" (at least at the time). If that's the case, it says a lot about the state of Hollywood and the audience...and nothing good.

On the bright side, at least it has some stories on fanfiction.net, that's basically a sign that you've made it, lol.

i dont know about others but it is one of the very rare movies that actually make laugh out loud every time. bot chuckle or grin, laugh. because of this it deserves an 8.

reply

I think you watched The Recruit before this, "Nothing is what it seems".

reply

I thought it was really solid to be honest with you. It's a sleeper if anything. It's funny as hell too.

I liked this movie from the first time I watched it on DVD.

Everyone has different tastes so I understand why some don't like the movie.

I loved it when I saw it at the cinema when it was first released. It's such a great, fun film and I agree with the posters who say it's under-rated. I'd say it should be about 8.7.
The interaction between RDJ and Val Kilmer's character's was hilarious and I'd have loved to see a sequel.

reply

Did you meant GTFOOH?

Anyway, it deserves an 8.5/10

reply

You are insane OP. This is one of the funniest and well written movies I have ever seen.

reply

Brilliant and rare gem. Semi-regular rotation for me.

reply

I agree. If anything, I would rate it higher.

I'm grateful for these old threads because they can reveal how a movie ages. Nine years ago it was a 7.7, but now it's a 7.5. I would have expected its score to go up over time, but maybe the new Iron Man/Disney-Marvel RDJ-fans do not embrace even slightly eccentric filmmaking.
