Why didn't it work?

Even if we get past all the bashing of the US ratings system (which I agree with), this film still wasn't a commercial success in Europe where it was screened in the original version that Egoyan wanted.

So, why didn't it work? What is 'wrong' with it?

Sadly, I didn't get to see it because it played in so few US cities that it never came to my area.

You know,I cannot for the life of me figure it out. I mean, it wasn't the greatest film I've ever seen, but it is very, very far from the worst as well!

I live in NYC, where the film played in a half dozen or so theaters for a period of about 2 weeks. Many people here never even heard of it!

A good friend of mine, who knew I had gone to Toronto for the premiere, emailed me the other day saying she had read Where the Truth Lies and wanted to know when the movie was being released! She was shocked to learn it had come and gone months ago, but pleased to hear the DVD is being released Feb. 28. She said she could not recall seeing it advertised anywhere.

Very curious.

In France no ads were made for this movie, althought it's a great one. Likely, internet exist and I was able to know and see it.

There were no adverts here in Britain either which surprised me as many films with an 18 rating have been advertised on television, obviously at the appropriate times.

No Brian, I'm the Easter Bunny!
