Vince's door wasn't chain-locked until Reuben locked it himself after he entered. Lanny only locked the main door and the door in his private suite. Only 2/3 doors were locked initially. Reuben said he always prepared them for bed andvthisvis when he overheard Maureen trying to extort Lanny (and Vince).
Yes, Vince needed the $1milion to pay off Reuben who held this over his head for years. Reuben sloppily asked Karen for the exact same amount in exchange for the tape after Vince killed himself.
