SF is the Sucker Free
Sucker Free City was enjoyable, colorful and well-paced. I stumbled upon it, not knowing it was a Spike Lee joint, and found myself saying, "Wow. This director's been influenced by many a Spike Lee joint."
I think the actor that played Leon stole the show. That was a very realistic portrayal of a Bay Area gangster. I wanted to knife him myself.
I think the film was not without its flaws. Sucker Free could have been an excellent series and might have really had some interesting directions to go. Lincoln is no less a punk than some of those V-Dubs and I think . Plus, a huge loose end was when Nick doesn't eventually hook something with the office hussy. Plus, K-Luv never really handles the Lil O situation.
Spike said somewhere that San Francisco is a city that doesn't get enough love in film and I couldn't agree with him more. It's such an interesting city and with the different neighborhoods, there is potential to really explore some poignant storylines. Plus, even though the city has become unaffordable for most young people, there are loads of working-class blacks, Asians, Latinos and whites trying to make it happen there every day.
