why are there no latinos gangs in the film

well i grew up in the bay area in oakland but hung around san fran all the time and the only thing that dissapointed me was spike lees portrayal of the mission district as being a white neighborhood anyone that knows san francisco knows that the mission excelsior and geneva is were most of the latinos in the city live there are whites in the mission but mostly hippie and yuppie tipes and most of the gang affiliated white kids ride with the latino gangs. like 24th is one of the oldest gangs in the mission spike lee could have used them in the film i just don,t understand why spike lee didn,t do a bit more research of the area it would have been more realistic oh well maybe next time

ps the mission district is one of the most deverst latino districts in northern cal theres not only mexicans but also you,ll find people from el salvador nicaragua honduras colombia cuba peru puerto rico and many more and the mission host the annual carnaval one of the biggest carribean and latin festivals in northern cal so yea mr lee next time you portray the mission in a movie come down here and see it for your self come to 24th and mission or cesar chaves st or mission and 30th

Because their is about 100+ steroypical latino gang movies, this one didnt need to add on the list.

It's not easy - life - is not easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it.

Also let's not forget that the movie was written by an Asian cat, Alex Tse.

Wait a second... They pretty much portrayed the Mission district exactly as you said...

They point out that most of the whites in the district are hippy or yuppie types - Nick's dad being an actual example of a hippy, and by stating that the yuppies were buying up all the real estate...

And as a "gang affiliated white kid", Nick actually does ride with a Latino gangster, that being his apparent best friend Fernando. His Latino status was made obvious when Fernando was refused entry at the white yuppy bar, where he is referred to as a Mexican... His gangster status made obvious by his business with Nick, and of course when Nick asks him to get his presumably Latino gang to help him sort out the VDUBS across from his new home, where Fernando actually supplies him with a gun and a knife to protect himself.

While they didn't go so far as to feature any more than the single Latino gangster, they certainly satisfied the basic criteria of your apparent requirements... Had the series been picked up, it may very well have gone on to introducing the Latino gangs, when the seemingly inevitable war broke out...

Yes, exactly right... my feeling is there would've been an ep pretty soon when a Latino gang would be introduced, sorta like in every other series like this where Armenians or Russians or whatever come in.... and maybe Vietnamese street gangs too who knows? You could see so much building here, obvious things like attraction between K-Luv and Samantha, conflict between the V-Dubs and the other black gang, something involving Lincoln's hotheaded jersey-wearing friend, tension between Lincoln and the boss's lieutenant, between the street level Chinese thugs and the Tong. Too bad nothing came of this series, though admittedly in my mind other than the location the only thing that made it unique was the director, and TV series typically rotate directors out and anyways Spike Lee might not want to spend all his time directing a series, so you know.....
