Why TV and not cinema?

Any idea why this film was made for TV and not cinema? I find it quite unsual for a film director to make a film directly for TV at this point of his career. Pity coz here in Europe it is not easy to find this film due to the fact that it did not have the high profile of a cinema release.

Don't Tell me about the Wire. I've developped a nerdy almost trekkie esque(yes I should be shot for using that expression) love of the Wire. David Simon & Ed Burns deserve a street named after them in Baltimore . I think the shield is great, but the Wire makes it look like *beep* by direct comparison.
I was saying that Sucker Free City far exceeds the disease of the week dross that normally passes for TV movies. And while were on the topic be fair sucker free city isn't really a police show so the comparison isn't appropriate. SFC is more similar in nature to The Corner (Which admittedly I haven't seen, though I have read). Compared to the Wire, Sucker Free City is terrible(Of course that can be said about several show when judged on their own merits are perfectly good). I'm basically agreeing I just love talking about how good the Wire is. I almost wish there were conventions. Yes I am that lame.

I agree Ghost it was pretty good for a made for television program. I remember watching this back in 2004, it got considerable hype on Showtime. Was definitely slated to be a show. Yeah it had flaws. But you have to admit that was an ambitious project piecing together three different point of views under the indyfied Spike Lee umbrella. The San Francisco backdrop would have provided a great setting for a season..too bad.

I just viewed this last night for the first time since..it's still shocking when Sleepy blasts on Lil O! And the scene where Jim Brown inquires about Lil O's disappearance to Keith is mad powerful.
