Taken over whole map

Has anybody had the time to take over EVERY SINGLE city in the whole map??? I'm currently doing it with the julii (do a little bit here and a little bit there to make sure i still have a life) and i don't have to worry about cataphracts cause Pontus and Scythia took out Parthia :)
So far, i've got about 3/4's of the map, only the East is to be contested by the crazy horde of Egyptians and stupid Scythian horse archers.

What difficulty are you playing at?

reply

very hard campaign map but only hard battle difficulty.

After playing for a while I got bored and took over the entire map <insert Evil laugh here>. You obviously have to take Rome last but its fun either way. The only way to play in on most difficult.

reply

Take Rome last? That must be expensive. That Senate never stops raising armies.
I just took over the entire map and I was disappointed when the game just kept on going. All that are left are bloody rebels that don't do anything. No "congrats" message either for TOTAL world domination. All in all I guess I'm glad I'm done with this game.

You would think confetti or something would drop after taking over the world!

i beat the game with carthage a while ago, its the only time ive been bothered to take over the whole thing, took aaaages to lol.

reply

Carthage? that must have been hard. the lack of archers can be a bitch.

You don't need to take Rome last. Be stupid to do so, just when you capture your 50 provinces it says. Do you want to continue? Then you continue... Try playing as one of the unplayable teams, those are far tougher. Though sometimes they don't work, i can't get it to work anymore. All you need to do is go to the descr_strat file and change the unplayable to playable... you might and should be able to play every team except SPQR and the slaves but SPQR will be on the list, game will just crash if you try. If the game crashes when you try any of them, then you just can't. But on my old computer i could play as any team, conquering as Macedon, Thrace... Makes it more fun thats for sure.

I think I had the old version of Rome. If you take Rome and have 50 regions it ends the game without giving you a choice.

reply

hmmm not really, carthage seemed to get easier as i played more, it was once i conquered the whole map they became a pain cause alot of my settlements kept rebelling lol, im playing the game now with the greek cities and im stuck fighting egypt, bloody archers lol...i need to make other units rather than spartans hehe thats probably my problem.

reply

use light cavalry, make your armies around a 3-2-2 strategy 3 infantry for every 2 archers and 2 cavalry... thats a good way of beating the egyptians... doesn't matter what cavalry, they use slow infantry like you do, but watch out for the chariots, can be a real pain... otherwise it should be pretty good, especially with some spartans on your side... the other great way of beating the egyptians is always tire them out, force them to chase you a bit and do a lot of marching before there is any real battle, and if possible, try to break any formations they have with skirmishing, use valuable units to draw away their powerful units and reveal their weak rears, then you can strike with some cavalry, when their pikes turn on the cavalry they run and your bait strikes... just continue the strategy until the enemy is done or they bring reinforcements that you can't avoid

I think Romans are the way to go to take over the whole map. They have the best infantry, some of the best cavalry, and are tops with their Archer Auxilia. Without the archers I definitely would not have been able to win.

The worse thing by far about the Egyptians are the archers and their ability to make endless hordes of them. Chariots are no problem, they get taken out by archers; phalanxes are no big deal, my infantry throwing the pila are more than enough to make them break; cavalry is no problem, 4 units of legionary cavalry is more than enough to break any enemy cavalry threat. As I said before, the real big threat is from the Egyptian missile troops. Missile superiority is always my number one concern.

Thats the problem with Seleucids, their archers aren't that great.

Also, only the Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians make Pantheions/Temple Cities. Without those, its near impossible to take over the world. Roman Julii would be the best because they have 50% Public order (due to happiness) bonuses. This is why Carthage has a hard time managing a big empire, their temple only goes to 40% I think. Romans also have the Arenas and Coliseums. I can guarantee that you will not keep order in your 100 region empire if you don't have those Coliseums churning out games everyday.

hmmm yeah i must admit that when i used the julii i found keeping order alot easier than i did with carthage, and now im using the greek cities it seems pretty easy to, i had a fun battle against the julii the other day with the greek cities, they had me outnumbered by heeeaps, i was facing 2 armies of about 1000 men each, and i only had 4 spartan phalanx units, i didnt like my chances but i did it anyways, they started off surrounding me n i was on the brink of breaking the whole time, but just as it looked like i was gunna lose they broke n ran..it was the weirdest thing ive ever seen but it shows how good spartans were hehe...ive also started a new campaign with carthage again only this time im doin it on very hard difficulty, its quite different to normal lol so thanks for the advice on egypt ill take it on board when i move into egyptian territory :).
