Before I see it, Can someone tell me some parts that makes this movie R?

Please? Thanks in advance.

The only violent scenes I can remember are *SPOILERS*:

1. Amputation: At the start of the film, a guy gets his leg chopped off by a flying axe (very little blood). A girl gets shot in the back with a shotgun. There are some b&w shots of people killed by the Axe Gang mob. (moderate amount of blood)

1. Decapitation. A guy gets decapitated by an assassin. You don't see his head get cut off but you see his shadow and then you see his body and detached head fall to the ground. You also see the shadow of a cat get split in two (in mid pounce) by the assassin. Very little blood in this scene.

2. Casino fight: Some parts of the casino fight. Some scenes aren't realistically violent and instead, more CGI "cartoon violent". One guy gets his head punched through the floor. One guy is so strong that when he fights, he can make people's limbs corkscrew.

3. Character deaths: Some deaths are again "cartoon violent" but younger people watching this movie may get freaked out. One guy is punched so hard that his head turns 180 degrees the other way.

A lot of the violence is live-action, CGI cartoon violence; a guy kicking so hard that shockwaves rip a wall apart or a lady screaming so loud that it tears the whole building apart.

Rated R? It really should be "PG-13 for sequences of martial arts action, violence, and some crude humor." (Language, I'm not sure.)

There are no sexual content either, just a few mild references (Gangster rubbing his wife's behind; landlord giving a few suggestive pokes to the tailor; the landlady's breasts getting huge everytime she does the Lion's Roar at the casino.)

There is a twice recurring flashback scene where the main character is shown getting urinated on by a group of boys.

It's really not bad for an R movie at all. There is a part with a LOT of blood though, but it isn't the result of violence, there is just blood filling a hallway.

And to add to HOMESRFAN's comment, the blood filling hallway seems a direct take on Kubrik's scene in THE SHINING (kept expecting the twins to pop up) so that should give the OP a perfect visual on that particular scene.

2 Cents: I'd agree too this movie isn't really violent on the traditional sense..and "R" seems a stretch, it's so cartoony. I kind of wonder if the ratings board really gave the "R" more for what it would do to SOME kids watching it. The action is "violent" but it's over the top, way over. But I can see some self righteous or in the least, overly concerned raters thinking some kids would take up some of this Kung Fu and try it themselves on other kids without realizing that if you clock someone on the head repeated with a long stick they WON'T be getting up. It's kind of like when years ago I remember some parents were freaked out at the "violence" in Looney Tunes cartoons.

I was NEVER into martial arts films, but this was a pleasant surprise, so much so, I went out the day after watching it from Netflix and bought the darned thing. It's really fun.

"Phuc Peace, Time To Kill Everyone!"

Those ratings seem to be shelled out so randomly that I am still amazed that there are still people that actually take notice of them and even take them for serious.

I came to IMDB today to see if the 'R' rating was similar to the PG-13 rating of another of Chow's movies, Shaolin Soccer. Shaolin Soccer is a solid PG, not PG-13. It sounds like KFH too is "overrated", given an R when it really should be a PG-13

reply

Go get "This Film is Not Yet Rated". The ratings board is complete BS. There was nothing I would not let my own ten year old watch. Far less disturbing than Garfield kicking Odie off the table. LOL.

The uncut version apparently justifies the R rating. The American version was edited in an attempt to achieve PG-13 but the MPAA still gave it an R rating.

That was a preempted sh! Just know I have a whole bag of sh! with your name on it.
