Much funnier in Chinese with subtitles

I find the dubbed version of this movie mediocre at best, but when watching it in the original Chinese with subtitles I bust a gut. The vocal inflections make all the difference. Dubbed version 5-6 stars at best, subtitled version, 10 stars all the way.

Truer words were never spoken.

Indeed.

Chow's line delivery of the sardonic dialogue in the knife scene is what sends it over the top funny. I hate dubbing in any language but especially in Cantonese since it's the one language (aside from English of course) I happen to know. The translation/dubbing misses a lot of the language and therefore the humor. Cantonese can be very sardonic and blunt in brevity and I find English translations usually lack these key nuances.

That's so funny, I just watched this again today with a friend. I tried to convince him that we should watch it in Cantonese with subs, but he didn't want to read the screen. The movie was good but not the same as I remember it. I would definitely watch it subtitled next time!! Much better!!
