I'm missing why the rocks float but nothing else. If the rocks float, Why couldn't the kid?

I think that you will find that the rocks were composed mostly of iron ore, and were suspended in a polarized anomaly by magnetic attraction / repulsion. Sort of like when you bring two bar magnets together >o<

Notice when they turned over, due to Sean's weight on them, they immediately levelled out again, the other way up.
