how did noone in the family notice that he shot himself.
it would have been really loud. and the house was quite small.

That is exactly what I was thinking the entire film!! Matt must have killed himself at night or early morning. The sound of a gunshot would have woken up at least ONE of the three other people in the house.

Doesnt using a pillow disguise the sound of a shotgun??

True, I hadn't thought about that, maybe he did shot the gun thru a pillow.

if i remember correctly, didn't the rest of the family sleep upstairs, while matt slept downstairs... not that a gun whouldn't be loud enough to be heard throughout the house, but it would be quieter, especially if e go with the pillow theory.

tim, sandy, and ben could all be really heavy sleepers too.

He was upstairs and Mom and Tim were downstairs, the house actually looked a bit on the large size and it was old which means heavier doors and whatnot. Not to mention it was a handgun and a pillow would suffice to silence a gunshot.
