R1 rights?

Who has the R1 rights? I would think that with the release of the remake around the corner, a release of the original, even in a barebones version, would be a no-brainer.

Go to Criterion and ask them to work on Satyajit Ray films, a good Kwaidan rerelease.

I would not be surprised if FOX released this on DVD when the remake Mirrors is released on DVD

Just watched the remake yesterday and really liked it. As an Asian horror fan, I REALLY want to see the original now, to compare. Kind of ashamed to admit this (and I'll probably lose some imdb "cool points" lol), but I actually didn't even know "Mirrors" was a remake until the end credits, though it kinda had that Asian horror feel.

I realize I could always watch it online on Youtube or Google video, or buy the Region 3 or PAL version and watch on my computer, but watching a movie on a computer screen isn't the same as watching it on your home theatre. Unfortunately, my DVD player only plays Region 1 or All Region DVDs. Though I remember buying other foreign movies like Shutter on ebay as All Region DVDs before they came out in the US, so maybe I'll find an All Region "In the Mirror" someday if I keep looking...

Anyone know why Tartan released it in the UK but not the US?

Update: Did some research and just ordered a Digital Video Format Converter from dvdoverseas.com. That should solve my problem and let me play PAL/other region DVDs on my US NTSC system...hopefully :-)

it will help you play PAL (which i don't think you had a problem with to begin with) You still won't be able to play dvd's with region coding other than what your dvd player can handle (ie, 1 & 0) Those machines only convert the broadcast signal NOT the region, sorry.

FYI film is now available in North America as a special feature on blu-ray and DVD releases of Mirrors 2.
