Analysis: Well as was posted earlier on this board, I'm glad Pacino won over De Niro (I certainly voted for Pacino) because De Niro has sold out big time in recent years. I wish the show had used that cafe scene from Heat 'cos it would show the two greatest movie stars acting together (including De Niro's last great performance to date), but anyway.

Ewan McGregor is way too high at no.9, and Brando is way too low at no.30 (I think he and McGregor should swap) because Brando changed screen acting forever and put in some tour de force performances. I'd have thought James Dean would have been higher for that matter, too.

On a personal hero point of view, I'm disappointed to see Alec Guinness not in the list, and Gene Kelly all the way down at no.66 (behind John Travolta?!).

I think Spacey is too high as well. I think he's done some great Channel 4 viewer-type films, like Se7en, Usual Suspects, American Beauty. Overall, though, he hasn't done a body of work to justify this position (in my humble opinion, of course).

My personal dislikes: I hate Mel Gibson (well, I'm an English athiest - so I must be Gibson's sworn enemy!) and I don't think he's a great movie star, even if he is a competent director. And Nic Cage is severely overrated as an actor (although I do agree Leaving Las Vegas was a great performance.) And Woody Allen is exactly the same in every film, so I think people voted for the writer/director, NOT the actor star.

I think there is a bit of reactionary voting (Halle Berry for e.g.), I mean if the poll was taken today Orlando Bloom would be in there, but overall I think it's quite representitive of the public at large's opinion.

So then, what do YOU think?

I really think that Robert Englund should have at least been in the top 10, he is an amazing actor and needs to be credited for it, I mean come on there are the likes of Angelina Jolie, who for me is very small potato compared to the likes of Robert and many other actors just like him who have been overlooked in favour for Leonardo Di Caprio (who did one good film, In my opinion). I believe that people should have been voted for the ability to act a part, not the way they look, whether they are HOT or NOT as that is the way that most of these votes have gone, Fine vote for these people in the 100 Hottest Movie stars etc, but leave them out of the 100 Greatest and vote for the real actors who have entertained or Scared us through our screens for years!!

~~GO ROBERT ENGLUND, HAVE LOVED YOUR ACTING SINCE V~~

I want to know where the hell Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo were!
It was a very odd list.
And, I know she's not the greatest, but I would have though Julie Andrews would be in there somewhere...? Anyone notice how the whole top ten were all men? And in America Meryl Streep's known as one of the finist actresses around, so why's she so far from the top ten?! I think it was definately mostly men that voted.

i can only write one thing: marlon brando was and will be the best actor in the world.
as jack nicholson said once:"He(brando) gave us our freedom" and in a oscar awward he alsa said "we all are brando's sons"
that's it..
i recommend "a streetcar named desire","on the waterfront","viva zapata" so you understand what i mean...
i won't recomend "the godfather" because if someone hasn't seen that movie then he can't talk about cinema.

Any "greatest" list without Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn not in the Top 10 is useless.

Where is Toshiro Mifune? Actually i guess "Movie Star" and "Actor" mean different things. Rudolph Klein Rogge should be on the "100 Greatest actors" list as well.
