Scenes at the start in the Finnish Army...

make no sense-they were on some sort of training exercise/war game and their M62 assault rifles were loaded with blanks as indicated by the blank firing attachments fitted on the muzzles-these act like a sort of cork in the end of the barrel so that there's gas pressure inside the rifle to work the mechanism when using blank rounds-just removing the BFA means if you fire the weapon, you fire one blank with no bullet and that's it-if left on, you just shoot the magazine that's full of blanks, again no bullets come out. No possible threat either way. They wouldn't be carrying live ammunition for the obvious safety reasons anyway.

Actually the "blanks" we use in Finlands army have wooden "bullet" so he would shoot wooden splinters which might cause harm on eyes and skin. Atleast that was told us when I went to army.

Good God!-They still use those in modern weapons? I know that many Northern European armies used the wood blanks in old bolt action rifles like the Finnish m/39 but it seems very strange to use such dangerous blanks in automatic weapons.

Friend told me it would be too inconvenient to shoot other blanks with service rifles as we used them to fire hard rounds too. Would need other barrel for that.

It's too long to myself to remember the reasons what were most likely told us when I was there.
