'I can't believe you told her!'

In watching this movie for the 100th time on TBS tonight, I had a thought --

When Kat's sister, Amy, blames Nick for Kat finding out about her and Jeffrey, I wonder if she was really trying to break them up? Amy seemed jealous of her sister's relationship with Nick, and she felt competitive with her sister and men already.

I mention this because Amy sees Kat coming from the house with Jeffrey, and it's clear at that point that Kat has found out the truth -- but there is no Nick in the scene at that moment. It should've seemed obvious to Amy that Jeffrey or TJ told Kat. For her to blame Nick seemed odd and her statement "I can't believe you told her!" seemed forced.

Any thoughts?

I think Amy was nervous because the truth came out. Even if Nick was the one who'd told Kat, that would be no reason for the two of them to breakup. Because Nick didn't tell her means he was trying to protect her from the truth. In real life, this is the kind of situation that should be left between the two people. In the movie it ends well.......in real life it probably wouldn't.

Well, in real life, hell would freeze over before I forgave my sister for sleeping with my boyfriend, as Kat did. I would not be attending her wedding the next day either. Kat was a bigger person than I could've been.

Yeah, I'm with you! That would end our relationship forever. I doubt that a groom would simply forvive the bride and the wedding would go on as if nothing happened. There are so many things we know are just wrong, yet I've heard this story and worse in real life. But in a movie, everything works out and everybody is happy!

reply

Agreed, especially considering their history. The younger sister seemed to love to hurt her sister in subtle ways and then to have it come out that she betrayed her in that way? I have a similar relationship with my sister and I would be very, very hurt if she ever did that.

Every sin is an escape from emptiness.

reply

Nobody actually cheated on anyone tho- as Kat and Geoff had split up and it was before the sister had got together with the other guy (forgotten names!)
But even so it would be hard to take, and the fact they'd both omitted to tell the truth.

reply

I was under the impression that Geoff broke the engagement with Kat because of the affair.

reply

He did. They were engaged when he slept with Amy.

reply

Then that would make you a very forgiving person. The way I see it is they are both adults and her sister knew what she was doing. In my opinion, a sister or brother is supposed to have your back, not betray you. That's why I say some things should be taken to the grave.

reply

I couldn't agree more about it seeming forced. It's almost like she's trying to cause trouble for Kat because she knows that Kat could reveal her secret so publicly now that she knew the truth.

reply

I told my mother this last night when we watched it on HBO. I think Amy was jealous of Kat and Nick together that I wouldn't be surprised if she was doing that to hurt Kat even more.

reply

Naw. I've it's a logical step that a supposedly deeply held secret was revealed by the person she had only just told. Amy is not, or perhaps was not, a nice person but I think we can give her the benefit of doubt with that line.

reply

I agree. I don't think Amy was trying to break them up. I think she just assumed since she figured Jeffrey would never say anything. TJ even leans into Amy and says "Jeff told Kat" or something like that.

reply

HelenL you are incorrect, Jeffrey says to Kat in wine cellar, "I slept with your sister...I shagged Amy, two years ago, that's why I broke it off with you."
So yes he cheated on Kat & Amy betrayed her sister.

reply

I think Amy is a reprehensible person. By saying to Nick: "I can't believe you told her" when she knew Jeffrey told Kat, she was flippin' the script and moving the focus away from her betrayal of Kat, and manipulating Kat into believing Nick betrayed her. Amy was a manipulative, deceitful character. Beautiful and charming to some, admittedly. Jeffrey is the same way, although Amy was smarter that Jeffrey; Jeffrey was dumb as a box of rocks.
I just watched it again on FreeForm too. Love the movie, I just wish Kat resolved her issues with Amy is a stronger manner. Amy got off way too easily, like she had been her whole life.

I don't think she did know that Jeffrey told Kat. TJ (their cousin) leans into Amy and said "Jeffrey told Kat" or something like that. Then she's all quiet.
